A True Christmas

Ornaments by Rusti. yes, I made that.

Every year about this time, we used to pass out Christmas boxes to people. I took my kids to teach them compassion, ther's no shame in being broke,Also to show them not everyone has what they do.

So we had 5 boxes assigned to us. We went to the first one. Huge house, playing carols, under the tree was present after present. So we left the box wished them a Merry Christmas and moved on.

The second house was the same nice big house full of presents and partying. I started to guess God,but felt it was up to me for us to do our part to help.I went on blind faith.

The 3rd and 4th houses were the same.

We are down to one box now. I told my husband," I don't know why we are doing this, the kids aren't learning to help the poor , when they should be,We kept talking while we looked and looked for the last house. We looked and looked for that house. We couldn't give up we just HAD to find these people. All the while I'm telling my husband "these people have more than we do and are taking from people that really need it" I said I'm glad this is the last one, This isn't how it's suppoossed to be. People loving helping eachother. It should happen for more people. Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes.

Finally we find the apartment , went to the door (we had stopped and bought donuts for all the boxes we sent.

This mom and son CRIED when they saw us,they had the upstairs blanketed off to keep the heat in. no tree. Poor thing. As we walk away, I heard the son get all excited,"mom look donuts!" I walked away in tears .We tried to hard to find an open store to buy this child some gifts for him and mom. Everything was closed it was late christmas eve.I'll never forget that mother and son wishing I could do more to give them Christmas. You see, God wanted to show me not to give up but to be more tolerant.

Then a strange thing happened. I looked over and my teenage son was crying and I knew then, I taught my kids well.God helped my children see ,there are real people needing real help. Every year I pick one child to make their wish come true. Can only afford one childs cause what they want is like a hundred bucks. This year Santa bought a doll, that this little girl has been begging for a certain doll for years.. I also bought her a couple accessories to play with. MY only wish is I could see their faces ,when they get that one toy They've been waiting for. This year she gets her doll.

I can no longer lift the boxes.Due to a heart defect and lower back surgeries. So now I help the kids one at a time .

Presents are nice, but when you hear a child excited on christmas eve about getting donuts, really puts you in your place. people be good to eachother and please don't forget JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

Doing for others is the best birthday to Christ, you can give. Please don't forget the reason for the season!

Be good to eachother, and Merry Christmas!

When i was a kid and went to a predominately family run church where my uncle was the pastor, they gave the kids a brown paper sack every Christmas. The sack was filled with an apple, an orange, nuts (walnuts, Brazilian, pecans) and old fashioned hard candy. As a kid you tend to appreciate it all before the world jades you.

I was a little concerned this year, because I didn't feel like I gave my kids exactly what they asked for. But it turned out well, because they aren't real "gimmie gimmie" kids. And I realized that that I was worrying for nothing.
