After Christmas Shopping

Updated on February 7, 2012

After Christmas shopping is one my favorite times to take advantage of major deals. There are several retailers that I shop during the 4 weeks after Christmas. This time of year is when I buy all Christmas paraphernalia at 50% off or more. The sales start as soon as the day after Christmas and as late as early January.

The day after Christmas is when I buy my ornaments and lights that I have been eye balling all season. Pier 1 Imports is one of my favorite holiday décor stores. Their glass ornaments are so intricate and eye catching. The following day after Christmas they mark down their holiday merchandise 50% off! Their doors open early, usually 8 a.m., so you need to get there when they open to have first pick.

Target, Wal-Mart and other department stores also are known for their After Christmas Sales. Expect Target to start the markdowns at 30% off. These stores are great for finding sales prices on Christmas lights.

I like stopping by Hallmark, Michaels and Hobby Lobby to find deep discounts on quality wrapping paper, bows and other gift wrapping supplies! I enjoy wrapping because part of the fun of giving is the presentation. These stores are known for discounting their holiday merchandise as low as 90% off. I become a regular shopper at Michaels and Hobby Lobby for a few weeks, stopping by once a week to see if they have marked down their products even more!

If you do buy artificial trees like me then this is when you replace your old tree if need be. I wait until the trees are marked down to 70% off then I go on the hunt to purchase a new tree for next year! Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, Lowes and Target always have a nice selection of trees.

Retailers usually offer a selection of gifts that are only marketed during Christmas. These gifts are identified as holiday merchandise and are part of the massive Christmas markdowns! Stores such as Restoration Hardware, Urban Outfitters, Pottery Barn, Dillard’s and Macy’s are all examples of vendors who sell such gifts.

I hate shopping as a general rule, but after-Christmas sales are the best. I also enjoy JoAnn's ETC and Bath and Body Works sales at this time of year.

I love shopping after Christmas because I have found deals that are better than black Friday. I hadn't thought of hitting Pier 1, silly me.

Great advice for frugal and clever shoppers. I do the same thing and take advantage of the post christmas specials. After all, Christmas comes around every year. Also don't forget to shop for yummie seasonal treats after the new year. It's amazing what bargains you can land on smoked salmon, hors d'eouvres, chocolates, cheeses and other things.
