Alice in Wonderland Birthday Cake Ideas
With the much anticipated Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland Movie there is no doubt in my mind that an Alice in Wonderland Party Theme will become a popular party theme once again. The thing with this party theme is that is not just for the young kids, but the adults really like it as well. There is something about the twisted world and that Mad Hatter that attracts us adults too. I also think the new movie starring Johnny Depp is going to bring a new life to the classic animated version. Tim Burton I think was the right guy to do just that .
Anyway my point with this page is to give you some ideas on creating an Alice in Wonderland Cake for your next party. Now we are all not professional cake decorators and a lot of us do not work with fondant so I wanted to show different ideas I found that really anyone can do. Of course I will mix in pictures of some of the beautiful cakes others have made as well and there are some really great ones.
So many ways to go.....
When it comes to Alice in Wonderland there are so many ways you create a cake. First just think about a favorite part of the movie and what you want to play off of. Once you have your idea then the rest will be easy. Here are some ideas:
- Mad Hatter Hat
- Tea Cup
- Playing Cards
- Fun Whimsical Cake
- Eat Me Cake or in the new movie it is Drink Me
- Cheshire the Cat
- Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum
- Upside down Flamingo (New Movie)
You get the idea and being Alice in Wonderland is so Whimsical almost anything goes really.
Mad Hatter Hat Cake
This happens to be one of my favorite Mad Hatter Hat Cakes it was made by franjmc. She said she had created it for her hairdresser (boy were they lucky) who was having an Alice in Wonderland Party Theme.
She said: The hat is all cake, carved from a 10-9-8 inch rounds, the brim is a board, cards are edible image, all the rest made with fondant or gumpaste.
Teapot & Teacup Cake
Teapot & Teacup Cakes
So another fun idea is making a Teapot Cake along with some Teacups - being it is The Mad Hatter's Tea Party this is always a big hit. I think the fun part about making these is that you can decorate it any way you like. Some use Fondants and others just regular frosting's and candies to make it colorful and fun.

How to create a Topsy Turvy Birthday Cake
You will find that a lot of the cakes created for an Alice in Wonderland Cake are the Topsy Turvy type - the ones that look all lopsided and about to fall over. You do not need to be a professional cake maker to create this at home. While it does require some skill - I think the fact that it is supposed to look all lopsided works to your benefit as long at is not so much so it has balance issues. See the how to video to your right.
