April Fool's Day 2015 for Malaysia
For everyone, 1st April is a day where the neighborhoods are filled with pranks and mischief. Laughter can be heard through streets. Many people loose and become the fools of the day while other survive using their wit. Malaysia also celebrates this wonderful holiday with joy and laughter, but not this year. In 2015, a new system was introduced. A new system that filled the hearts of Malaysians with sorrow, despair and anger. A new system that will be launch on the jolly good day called April's Fool. A system called GST.
GST (Goods Services Tax)
When GST was first announced, the citizens of Malaysia was furious. Already the prices of everyday items were high. Now they are gonna charge a tax. GST maybe common in other countries and the citizens of the countries might of accepted it, but certainly not Malaysia. Not only did the government increased the petrol price, but they have also increased prices of household items, electricity and water. Now all of these Goods and Services are gonna be charged a tax. Most Malaysians are very frugal. It will be very hard for them to accept this change. People are already stocking up as much as they can. Some say that a rebellion might start. This is what the people of Malaysia say.
I also was very upset when I heard about the tax system called GST. Then I learned that the new tax system is the actually reduce the price in the long run. Many companies used to pay 30% of tax. This causes them to sell their product at a high price. The new tax system works by consumers paying 6% tax which will also be for the companies, the companies reduce their product's price due to reduced cost, product prices will be cheaper than before including GST. Most Malaysians don't know how GST works. That's why they complain.
GST will be hard to accept for Malaysia. Let's just hope that no merchant charges more that 6% for a product. Before GST was announced, I once ate at a shop where they charged 10% tax. Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
