The Beyblade Revolution: Beyblade toys, beyblade games, beyblade collectors cards and more.

Updated on October 17, 2011

Welcome to the Beyblade Universe

Yesterday my 6 year old boy arrived from school very worried.  The toy shops had run out of beyblades and buying a beyblade online was not an option either as most sites were out of stock.  Worrying news for a 6 year old!

But what exactly was he talking about?  For a start, a beyblade is a toy based on the old spinning top.  A couple of weeks ago my son had asked me to buy a beyblade for Christmas and in the past couple of weeks the beyblade TV series had become his “must see TV program”.  I had heard almost every day stories of beyblade competitions at the school, and Gingka –the beyblade hero- had become a household name.  But to be honest I wasn’t sure what all the fuzz was about.  Who was this Gingka and what exactly was a beyblade?

Trying to find a bey blade

For a start, under my boy’s directions I tried to find him a beyblade online. I was surprised to see how well he knew how to go about finding a Beyblade Metal Fusion Rock Leone !

Eventually, after visiting my local toy stores and more French websites which had run out of stock I gave up and I bought his beyblades from in the USA to have it shipped to France. I hope it arrives on time. It is a long trip for a very simple and cheap toy that despite its simplicity is causing a revolution among French children.

“Turn up” the excitement with this awesome customizable top. Choose among the top’s five pieces and use the assembly tool to engineer just the right performance. Want down force hard-hitting blades? Add the Spin Track: DF145 piece. Need a flat spike to control your pace? Be sure to include the Performance Tip: FS. Then, set it up on its launcher, pull the ripcord and send it spinning into action.

Parents easy guide to Beyblades

The vocabulary involved:

Beyblade: a metallic top

Beyblader: the one who spins the beyblade

What is a Beyblade Metal Fusion Battle?

A Beyblade Metal Fusion Battle is an engaging, modern version of the classic game Battling Tops.

How a beyblade works?
The Metal Fusion Battle Set beyblades use rip cord-powered launchers that propel two metal-rimmed tops into a specialized battle arena.

Are beyblades good for children?

Beyblades are recommended for children starting at 8 years old.  I reckon that the reason behind this recommendation is the choking hazard with a beyblade’s small pieces for very young children.  For older children the recommendation is based on the ability and skills necessary to work successfully a beyblade.  Apart from that if your child is quite skilful a beyblade is a good toy for him.

Some of the reasons why beyblades can be good for children are:

  • Using a beyblade and engaging in a beyblade battle your child will learn to create strategies to create collisions to slow down a fast-spinning top or boost a slower one.
  • Children have to think about combinations of spin direction, height, wheel shapes, and top types that ensure victory.
  • Engaging in a beyblade battle, children also learn to follow rules as there are many rules involved in a beyblade battle to ensure fair play.
  • Each top has different characteristics which gives them different spinning styles and endurance.  This pros and cons of every top means that a child needs to think and develop a certain skill to choose which beyblade to use against his opponent.

The beyblade game

A very simple, yet very entertaining game where two players spin their metallic tops at the count of three.  The last top standing wins.

The beyblade tops

Each beyblade has its own characteristics.  Different tops are shaped slightly different and have different weights, spin endurance and spin style.

Jacob: they make a very good present and they are very cheap compared to other children's toys.

Jason: lol looks like you are all into it as well! Even I sit sometimes to look at the tv series, which can be rather funny and dramatic sometimes, although I must admit that I prefer to sit with my girl and watch barbie films instead :-)

My 11 year old kid is also crazy for beyblade MF! He has a rock leone, Flame sagittrieo, Flame libra, Storm pegasis, Lighting L Drago, Gasher, Dark wolf, Storm aquario, Rock orso and a Dark bull with some type of so called " Special launcher with point collecting and angle compass".

He plays with these all day in his battle stadium. He says that he wants to be like "GINGA and KYOYA". I have heard of ginga but not of kyoya. Now after reading your hub about these beyblade's i have come to know much about them, Princessa. THANKS! Now i have need to sit with my son and watch this beyblade on tv so i can learn more about it. Thanks again Princessa!

PosiTive Mindz: How fantastic to have your boy creating a beyblade club with his friends!

bird of happines: Thank you for the warning. I agree that the tops can hurt but they are much less dangerous than the original wooden spinning tops used by children ages ago. In any event, like any other activity game (like football or any other sport) there is always a small risk of injury.

Trinsick: Fancy them being popular in Denmark as well! It looks like a toy that doesn't lose its charm...

I had to comment on this because I lived in Denmark for a while and kids loved these. I'm from the states and had never heard of them before then, I can't believe they're still popular.

mintuz1990: for me all this beyblade craze was new, and it seems to be very new in France as well. I any event, my boy and his friends are absolutely mad about them :-)

Believe it or not, but these arent new. When I was 12 ( Now 20 ) I used to collect beyblades. The show was very nooby but still a great show at that. By the looks of it they have modified the beyblades to be less customizable. I remember I got a couple of pencil sharpers, took the blades out then put them on the edges of the top. Then went round cutting peoples legs HAHAAH xD

Interesting hub, there was a time when a spinning top was just a spinning top, now they come in different designs and you can customize them. Kinda makes me wish I had this when I was young.

Your little boy is lucky to be getting one! I hope it arrives in time. Yes Princessa, little fellas here in Bangalore too were engulfed in the Beyblade revolution, a couple of years ago. Now, they seem to have outgrown that and gone onto newer stuff. I used to watch my neighborhood children beyblading after school. How fascinated they were!
