Gifts for Teenage Girls
2015 BULLETIN: The only clothing store they will patronize this year is American Apparel. They both bought horizontal striped shirts there last week. One of them wants the high waisted denim shorts and the other wants the fanny pack. Now ages 17 and 15, they still like the funky socks and oversized dark colored men's pullover shirts.
2014 BULLETIN: This year on her Christmas list, our 16-year-old listed ripndipclothing, an on-line store that features wild and funky socks, weird caps, and tee shirts. Our 18-year-old asked for a Kate Spade black and white striped handbag.
2013 BULLETIN: Hottopic.com tee shirts; you can shop online for these gifts for teenage girls. This is the No. 1 item of clothing that my granddaughters want (they are now ages 15 and 13): it's called bandmerch (band merchandise). Apparently the hot bands right now for that age group are:
Bring Me the Horizon
Singing With Sirens
Of Mice and Men
Here are some gift suggestions for girls. Below is a birthday wish list written by my 12-year-old granddaughter Rachel who turns 13 on August 9.
The world of the young teenager today is so amazing. Two of my beautiful granddaughters live with me and beg me to tell them stories every night. I tell them tales of my youth and I can't imagine what they must think. I describe a world of no cell phones, no computers, therefore no Google and no internet, no electronic devices, and we just barely had a black and white TV. We had telephones, but had to share a PARTY LINE with nosy neighbors! I love those blank stares; tonight I think I will tell them a bedtime story about our WRINGER WASHER (smile).
So. Like. ANYway, here's the list of items Rachel would like for her birthday:
OtterBox Defender Pink on White Case for iPhone 4
Portable Flexible Tripod for Digital Camera
Gift card to American Eagle
Gift card to Hollister
Gift card to Abercrombie and Fitch
Gift card to Sam Moon
Tan jazz shoes *
Black jazz shoes *
Eau de Toilette in sweet & flirty perfume (By Pink from Victoria’s Secret)
Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol. III
Urban Decay Afterglow Powder Blush *
PBTeen zipper make-up bag (mini dot plum) *
Vera Bradley Mini Hipster Night & Day purse
Rachel is going into the eighth grade this year. She is on the computer way too much and she stays on top of the current fashions. She just finished editing a Youtube video of herself and her younger sister swimming underwater, using a video made with a Flipnote inside a really cool Overboard waterproof pouch (which is really for an iPhone but fits the Flipnote perfectly).
Apparently Vera Bradley is IN right now, and so is Urban Decay. If you need to buy a gift for a young girl age 12-13 or thereabouts, you probably can't go wrong if you buy something that's on her list.
*Update 7/27/11: We bought her a beautiful duffel bag direct from Vera Bradley online. They are having a great sale right now; the bag was $69.00 on sale for $39.00. She had already changed her mind about the mini hipster and decided a large bag would be good for sleepovers.
*Update 8/12/11: Well, it's over, and here's what she got: Justin Bieber Someday perfume, Bicycle, Vera Bradley duffel bag, flexible leg tripod, camera bag, Packit lunch bag, iTunes gift cards, and a trip to Schlitterbahn for herself and 7 friends. She says the flexible leg tripod (see below) is great.
Christmas lists - update - December 2011 -
Well, the 13-year-old's wish list reflects her growing maturity. She has researched extensively and has picked a camera for the number one spot on her wish list, the Nikon Coolpix S8100 in black. Following that, she listed gift cards to American Eagle, Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Forever 21, and/or Aeropostale. Then iTunes gift cards, Justin Bieber posters and a calendar (she still loves the Bieb), hair bows, and Tom's shoes (the gray ones, brown ones with colorful polka dots and/or the white ones with black writing).
The 11-year-old would love to have a MACbook laptop, Sims 3 computer game, gift cards to Aeropostale, American Eagle, Hollister, and/or Dicks Sporting Goods (for the Nike shorts). She also would like a new toothbrush and toothpaste, gift cards to Vans for shoes, dark color skinny jeans, a round hair brush, and she ends the list with "Thank u so much! And I understand if you're not able to get some things!"
Update 2013: Now 13 and 15, their preferences have changed. They each have an IPad and have lost some interest in their cell phones. The older girl got a nice camera for her birthday, a Canon EOS Rebel T3i SLR, last month; still no MACbook for the younger one, but we'll see. They now shop at H&M when they can.
UPDATE 2/17/14: Our youngest granddaughter will be 14 on the 20th. She no longer wants a MACbook laptop. We got her an aqua Nintendo 3DS from Amazon and a Canon PowerShot S110 digital camera from BestBuy because she is now most interested in making videos for YouTube.
UPDATE for Christmas 2013, Girls 13 and 15
Important Update: These two girls are all about this store and website that sells "bandmerch." Friday, November 29, 2013 the store is having a sale, all tees $10. That's half off!
Go to www.hottopic.com for tee shirts featuring the bands: Bring Me the Horizon, Sleeping With Sirens, Suicide Silence and more. They seem to prefer black shirts with black and white graphics. The older one still likes Toms shoes.
