Updated on October 1, 2021

“I guess I’m a little weird. I like to talk to trees and animals. That’s okay though; I have more fun than most people.”

— Bob Ross

How To Make A DIY Bob Ross Costume Tutorial For Halloween

Why is Bob Ross a Halloween costume? Robert Norman Ross, or Bob as most knew him, is a great last minute DIY Halloween costume. Bob was a beloved artist and teacher. He had a TV show named "The Joy of Painting" and through it, he taught thousands of his online viewers how to paint using his wet-on-wet oil painting technique.

Any one who ever saw Bob Ross or one of his pictures will probably know that Bob loved to paint "Happy Little Trees" and there's a tree in just about everyone of the over 30,000 paintings Bob made during his lifetime.

“There’s nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.”

Simply glue leaves onto a headband and shirt. The background for the costume pictured is brown...which looks like a tree. Add a plastic paint palette and you've got a simple, fun costume.

Bob Ross And A Cloud Couples Halloween Costume Idea

This couples costume idea comes from Bob's love of clouds. He liked painting clouds almost as much as he liked painting trees. This cloud is made out of cotton stuffing and it's adorable...and easy to make...and inexpensive too.

“Remember how free clouds are. They just lay around in the sky all day long.”

Bob Ross And His Happy Little Tree Costume Idea

Here's a bit of Bob Ross painting trivia for you. 91% of Ross' paintings had 1 tree in them. 44 % of his paintings had clouds, 39% of his paintings had mountains in them. 34% of his paintings had a mountain lake in them. Considering that Bob Ross painted over 30,000 paintings, that's a considerable number of happy trees, clouds, mountains, and lakes!

Bob Ross sold over 15 million dollars of products, including his own line of how-to paint books, art supplies, and even some painting classes whose instructors had been trained using the "Bob Ross Method". I read somewhere that Bob donated all the paintings he created on the show to PBS.
