Best Gifts for Book Worms

Updated on October 18, 2015

Buying the perfect gift for others can be very difficult and time consuming. So I hope my selection of gift lists will help you find your loved ones a great gift. This particular list deals with gifts for book lovers, but you can find my other selection of gift list at the bottom of this article.

Obviously books or ebooks are the most logically gift, but that's just it their obvious! Try thinking a little outside the box, buy them something to do with books and reading, that they'll find fun and useful! Here is a few quick ideas that any bookworm would love!

Electronic Book Readers

  • Ebook Readers - Obviously the Kindle is the most popular brend but there also other readers, Kobo, Sony and Pandigital to name but a few. They allow you to keep lots of books with you in a small space, so make great gifts for college/university students who don't have spacee in their rooms for lots of books, and for people that travel a lot.
  • E-reader Cover - Keeps you e-reader clean and tidy and avoids scratches. The cases make them far more durable if they are ever dropped or knocked. Obvioulsy they can look cute and stylish too.
  • E-reader Stand - This is to allow you to use your e-reader for other purposes such as internet searching and looking at pictures, more easily. Plus you can prop it on a table to make reading easier if you are more comfortable sitting at a table.
  • E-reader Stylus - These are the little pens that allow you to turn pages and do a number of other things on your e-reader. They are not essential as the touch screen will also work with your fingers, but some programmes are easier with a stylus. plus they come in pretty colours too,

Bedtime Book Readers

  • Book Lights - Great for bedtime reading if you don't want to disturb your partner or anyone else in the room. Or for reading whilst on long car journeys or at night. Just slip them to the top of the book and flex the light over to required area.
  • Book Stands - Usually used for recipe books in the kitchen to allow you to see and read books easier and keep them off work surfaces
  • Book Marks - Obvioulsy you could just fold a corner down but a lot of people don't like to damage their books by creasing corners so a nice cute bookmark is great. These come in all sorts of ranges, from metal and wood, to paper, plastic, cardboard and even crotchet or embroidered. For some more individual or sutomised ones check out the link for Etsy in the next section.
  • Book Ends - To help your books stay tidily on a shelf, or just because they add an interesting aspect to your décor, book ends are great and come in such a huge range. You will find them here there and everywhere. Or to be a little more individual look for antique items which can be used as matching book ends.
  • Fun Book Shelving - Of course book cases are the obvious place to put books but there are so many other types of fun shelving about that can make a real feature of your book collection.

Book Related Clothing and Accessories

For any of these items I would advise you check out sites like Etsy and Folksy, or even Ebay. They are places were artists and crafts people can sell their goods. These tend to be the places you can get the most unusual and unique items. There are a lot of great crafters on there who make items from old books or papers.

  • Book Related Jewellery - Either items made actually using pieces of paper from books or inspired by a book or story. Twilight inspired jewellery is very popular at the moment, but the overall selection on there is huge.
  • Book Related Clothing - Either items with book covers, characters or quotes printed on them or there are a number of items, like scarves which have text printed directly onto the entire fabric.
  • Book Related Bags - Again these will either be with covers, characters or quotes printed on them or comic versions of books. 'I like big books and I cannot lie' is a current trend on tote bags.

Items Made from Book

Some people are just so creative. If you use the link above to get to Etsy you will find many inventive uses for books and old pages. These are just a few I managed to find.

  • Lamps - Made decopage style with ethe pages on a shade or glass cover, or costructed out of cut and folded pages.
  • Birdhouses - Decopage pages on wooden boxes to give a real individual look to your garden.
  • Furniture - Yep even furniture can be bought covered in vintage papers or comics. From small scale items like photoframes, to dining chairs and coffee tables. The posabilities are endless.
  • Iphone Docks - These are probably one of my favourite items, I always have books piled up on my bedside table anyway so adding one which has a dual use is a great idea to me. They are a stylish alternative to just having your cables trailing everywhere and they are cool. Get a classic book or your favourite modern novel. Most artsits will customise a book to your choice if they can find a copy.
  • Bags and Purses - These are insanely adorable. Small clutch purses and mini handbags made from hardback book covers. Each lovingly stitched and glued together by hand, these are such a unique idea. Any woman or girl would love to own one of these quaint items.
  • Art - Think large vintage style cover prints or tiny cut outs from vintage books, maps and comics. Or even graphic designs based on quotes or stories. They are fun and very individual to the owner.
  • Ornaments - Cut pages from books can be used to build and construct any number of things. Some of the many items you will find are Christmas baubles, small animals and fruit. All just for decorative purposes.

Or just play it safe!

  • Ebook Gift Card - Allow the receiver to purchase ebooks from the apple store directly, so they can choose any books they want
  • Amazon Gift Card - The same as above except directly from Amazon - although often these arent limited to ebooks and can be used to purchase any item.
  • Waterstones Gift Card or WHSmiths

Hope this helped!

I hope you have managed to find the perfect gift for that avid reader in your life. Or if not at least I will have given you some great ideas to think about. To the right you can see a selection of my other gift lists. Maybe you'll find some more ideas for others amoungst them.

Happy Gift Shopping!

I go through periods too, but I barely read a book while I was uni that wasn't a uni book, so have enjoyed it since leaving. Totally devouring books this summer. Glad you like this gift list

You didn't leave a thing out here. Lots of great suggestions and I know a lot of bookworms. I go through periods where I am a bookworm. However, I have been spending that time on HubPages. Great hub and voted UP.

I love the ornament and the chair idea, but the tote is really practical and would make a really nice gift for some of my bookworm friends. Great suggestions on this concept.
