The Los Angeles Arboretum, California

If flowers seem like the perfect gift, then the Los Angeles Arboretum is a beautiful way to spend the day. Admission is $8 per person and for those whom want to take the special Valentine’s Day Love Potion Tram Tour it will be an additional $8 per person. Space is limited on the tram tour so reservations are required. While there are several places it eat inside the arboretum, bringing your own food isn’t allowed. However, since you can get through the entirety of the arboretum in about 4 hours, this could be a great place to visit before or after a romantic meal. The Los Angeles Arboretum is 127 acres of gardens and waterfalls filled beauty, perfect for a romantic Valentine’s Day.

Mackinac Island, Michigan

While Michigan may hardly seem like a place you want to go in the winter, Mackinac (pronounced MAK-in-aw) Island can be a truly spectacular winder wonderland. It is true that many of the shops will be closed for the winter, several of hotels, such as The Cottage Inn of Mackinac and nearby in Mackinac City the Hamilton Inn Select, are open. A short ride in an air taxi will take you to the island that has wonderful views of the frozen lake as well as some of the best fudge in the United States. Mackinac Island doesn’t allow motorized vehicles, except those used for emergency purposes. Mackinac Island has several events happening Valentine’s Day weekend including a chili-cook off to keep you warm and a cross-country ski trails for when you want to see the snow-covered island in all it’s beauty.
