There are essential gifts, big gifts, and unique gifts. We will cover a few of each category, and help you choose the gift that is right for you and your special mother to be.

Make a Simple Gift Something Special!

There's all kinds of great ideas to making a simple gift really cute and appealing!

Diaper Cakes

Diaper Cakes consist of rolled up diapers rubber banded together and usually decorated with ribbon or something of the sort. My favorite part about diaper cakes is all of the other gifts that you can include in them. If you'll notice in the diaper cake to the right, there are booties other baby gifts included in the ribbon. How cute and useful is that!

People are also putting their own spins on diaper cakes and transforming them into all kinds of different things. I've seen four-wheelers, trucks, flowers, etc. Basically, if you have the imagination you can make it work!

Big Gifts

If you're not on a real tight budget, then one of these products might be the gift you're looking for.

Baby Bath Tub: This is the exact bath tub that I used for all three of my children. It has a temperature read, grow with me: comes with mesh insert that is great for newborns, a snap in place setting to help babies that are beginning to sit stay up in the tub. My children all used this until they were about one and a half years old. Great purchase!

Baby Swing: This is a Graco Baby Cradle Swing. I love this product. It looks so comfortable for baby, and it plugs in so you don't have to worry about buying batteries. In my experience, some babies love swings and some babies can take them or leave them.

Baby Bouncer: In my opinion, this is one product I would pass on. My three children didn't enjoy there bouncers at all, not even the one's that vibrate. I did like being able to sit them up on the counter or kitchen table while I cooked and cleaned and ran around, but other than that I found it to be pretty useless.

Crib and/or Playpen: Of course, a crib is definitely more useful, but a play pen can be a really handy device to have. babies and toddles can sleep in them during traveling and vacation, and they are useful when trying to keep a toddler in one spot. One of my friends refers to the play pen as the "play penitentiary". Meaning it's kind of like baby jail, which can be handy if you are trying to get something done but don't want to have to worry about your toddler getting into things and chewing on the dog and anything else he/she can get in their mouth. :)

There's nothing more special than a unique gifts. One that takes a lot of thought, something that really considers the whole amazing experience that is taking place in your loved ones life, something she can keep forever and look back and treasure the memories.

Something Unique and/or Sentimental

Baby Belly Body Cast: I did not include a picture because these have actually grown pretty pu

Matching Wine Glass and Baby Bottle:

I absolutely love this. I would have loved for someone to have given me something like this. I'm not a big drinker or anything, but I love a glass of wine now and then. So, this would be perfect. Maybe even provide a bottle of wine for the Mother to be to enjoy and unwind while she is spending time with her new little bundle of joy. Love it!

Baby Quilts:

These are a great idea. Every baby needs lots of baby blankets, and most mama's would love to keep at least one of them for as long as she can! So quilts are a darling gift for mommy and baby. I suggest looking locally for someone who makes quilts in your area. If you're crafty, make your own. That will increase the value by a longshot. You can also purchase quilts online at sites like and

Snow Globe Keepsakes:

How adorable is this. It is customized with the babies name and date of birth, and would be an amazing little treasure for baby and mama when baby is grown. I love this idea.

Rocking Horse:

This is probably my favorite idea that I have listed here, and that's probably because I have a rocking horse that someone built for me when I was a toddler and it is so special to me, and now my kids use it. I would suggest having this made locally too, if you know a local carpenter or wood worker, ask them for help.

Baby Shower Keepsake Book:

Okay, now I know you can't deny what an absolutely amazing idea this is. Bring a book to the baby shower and let everyone include their advice and well wishes to mommy and baby. This would be such an amazing thing to have to look back on.

Silver Utensils And Cup:

This is a really cute idea, and would definitely last and prove as a great keepsake. It's not the most unique idea, but it most definitely truly timeless.

Bronze Shoes:

Bronze babies first pair of shoes? Yeah, I think that's a great idea and another timeless treasure for mommy and baby!

Thank you so much RTalloni! I really appreciate this awesome advice.

I've been reading a lot of hubs from other established hubbers, and you guys are awesome.

I'm learning a lot about hubbing, as well as discovering a lot of really interesting information and stories.

So far, I am definitely enjoying the learning process -- and I'm eager to earn a lot more.

      Thanks again for stopping by.

After reading your request for constructive criticism I read this latest hub you've posted. Not too bad for a beginner. :)

You'll want to do lots of reading, including the Learning Center, and lots of proofing your work. Believe me, it's a journey to learn to do that as thoroughly as we need to! :)

Look over hubs from established writers and let your focus/goals grow with what you learn. Let the learning process be part of what you enjoy about HP!

      Happy Hubbing to you. :)

That's so funny. Whoever came up with the idea is pretty clever. I never would've thought to make a cake outta diapers.

When I read the phrase "diaper cakes", that is NOT the first thing that came to my mind!
