Choosing that most perfect gift

Do you ever wonder what to give your family members, friends or spouse for a gift? The gift doesn't have to be just for a holiday. It can be for a birthday or just because you want to give one to them. I have that dilemma quite often when the time comes to give someone a present.

Usually, I try to look for gifts that people either like or can use. Some things include things for college such as stationery, printer ink (because that is expensive), or gift cards for textbooks. I usually try to stick within a budget, since I am a poor college student myself.

For family, I try to figure out what family members really like or really need that is within my budget. For example, every year, I ask way in advance what my family members need. I usually get it out of them sooner or later :).

Just the other day, my mother was saying that she cannot find a pair of warm fuzzy socks to wear in the house when it is cold. All of the fuzzy socks she has now have holes in them from being washed so many times. So for Christmas, she is going to get a couple pairs of those socks.

My dad always tells me not to get anything for him, but secretly, he LOVES getting presents! It is so funny. He is like a little kid when he gets a present from someone. His eyes light up and he always says something like, "For ME?" It's really cute actually. I wonder what I should get him?

Since I don't have any siblings except for cousins who live in a different country, I don't really get anyone else anything except for a couple of very close friends. Usually the gifts they get are small, yet practical. One year I got my friend a blanket since she was mentioning that she needed one earlier in the year. She was very surprised but happy.

I have often wondered what to get my husband because he always tells me not to spend money on him. But I usually WANT to give him something if it is a special occasion. I still haven't figured out what to get my husband for Christmas, but am leaning towards something useful like a wallet. His is worn out, and I think he would be happy to have a new one. If not, it may be something else. As to what? I have no idea.

What do you think are the best presents to give family, friends and spouses? Do you buy expensive presents for them? Do you buy/make presents that are useful to them? What do you prefer as a choice for that perfect present? Do you wrap it up and tie it with bows or just give it in a gift bag?

Comments and thoughts are welcomed! I'd love to hear what you do for presents!

I got my husband his wallet, and gave it to him early since his old one was tearing pretty badly. I know it is before Thanksgiving, but I thought he could use it now. He absolutely LOVES it!
