Christmas Cast Away: Solo Celebrations

Updated on December 28, 2012

Not being with people for celebrations is no real celebration. However there are many people who have to spend their Christmas holidays alone for many reasons. Being alone in holidays brings in lots of loneliness. What to do when you are alone for Christmas and still want to stay out of the blues. There can be many ways to stay happy in your own company. Let’s see how!

1. Gifts for Self:

The first thing to do is to make you feel special. Nothing makes us happier than opening gifts. And who would gift you? Yourself! Shop all the things you have wanted for a while but didn’t get the time to purchase it. If your budget is low, buy things that you need for Christmas and gift wrap every item. What items can you buy? As you would be alone, remember your friends and family through pictures. L’objet frames have a huge range of photo frames. You can pick one, add a picture of your favorite person and let it rest by your side. Or you can buy yourself a winter jacket. Or buy yourself a wine and food hamper. You can use that hamper when you are at home sitting by the fireplace having dinner. The best would be to gift wrap all the gifts and open them one by one staying at home looking at the Christmas tree. Watch some movies and have some cocktails and starters. There are number of small gifts available in the dollar store that you can actually use regularly. Set a budget and buy them all.

2. Gift Others:

If this Christmas you’re alone and you have the lonely feeling then spend it outside your home. It is really not advisable to stay alone on holidays. You can volunteer for Christmas in your vicinity. You can opt for many activities like singing carols, working for some helpline, selling items at charity shop without asking for money, helping in Church activities or serving hungry people queued up at church. If you wish to do even further, than collect blankets and clothes from people who want to contribute and distribute them during Christmas. This can take few months’ hard work beforehand. But the efforts are worth the hard work. Or you can design Christmas cards and distribute them to the people coming to church. If you are talented with good voice or dance skills or instrument playing, hit the street and use your talent.

3. Just Roam:

It’s okay to be alone on Christmas. If you know you are going to be alone on this day then plan beforehand. Like make reservations at a restaurant beforehand. Decide what places you would like to visit. Choose places that have people around or the places where you can watch firework. If you want to stay away from the crowd then pack up and hit a new place you have never visited. Walk the city. Check out the lights and decorations. If you are blessed with a good DSLR or camera then start clicking. The moments that can be captured and remembered for life. There can be other ways to stay happy in Christmas but nothing makes you feel better than being yourself. So do not hesitate to do what you like and get ready to pull on the Christmas cast away mode.
