Gift box cake:)

Doesn't it seem like Christmas was just here not long ago?

I can't believe it, before we know it, Christmas will be here...we have just a few months! We should start getting prepared now, while a $10 or $20 present doesn't hit the pocket book so hard!

Even for those who are talented and crafty, they could start making gifts now, so there is less stress when Christmas gets nearer.

I don't know about you, but it is often the men that are hardest to buy for. You want to get them something they will like, and that they will use, yet do they already have what your looking at to buy, or would they buy a different brand if it were their choice. In these cases, it does seem like the good old gift card is a great option:)

One year I bought my brother a hat rack, one that hangs on the back of the door. I think I did know he didn't have one, but I did know he loves hats. So I got the rack and gave it to him with a new hat:)

Last year I had hand-knitted scarves throughout the year, so at Christmas, I gave the family an option to pick out their favorite scarf, one at a time. To my surprise they loved them, this warmed my heart so much. I remember lining up the scarves, reluctantly asking? "I don't know if you like scarves, if you do, maybe you can find one you like?" One by one said, I do, and one by one jumped off the coach with excitement to pick out their scarf. I found out later, they wore them all winter.

I had hoped to offer the same deal this year, except with fingerless gloves. I do have a stash of gloves already made, but I do need to get busy and make some more:) Especially now that the weather is cooler, it is easier to nestle into a comfortable chair with a cup of hot chocolate or even green tea, and knit away. I think it is relaxing and therapeutic for the soul:) I know it sounds crazy that something productive could be relaxing, but for me it is:) It feels great to get something done with my time sitting, than sitting to do nothing!

So have you thought about gifts yet for Christmas? What you might get? Who you have to get them for? Well, if you haven't you might want to start now, at least thinking? Not trying to tell you what to do, but you might want to get the pen and paper out, and make a list of the people you really want to share the gift of giving, or the gift of love for?

I have to admit, last year I didn't get my cards out in time to get them addressed and mailed. There are allot of people sending e-cards these days, yet a nice card hand signed with a little note, letting them know you did think about them, and you did take the time to address and mail a card. This is the old fashioned way, yet it is still a good way to say you care! Even slide in a picture...serious or humorous! A great family I know who is full of humor:) I wonder at times how can one family have so much humor, when others are so dry and blah? Anyway, every year they find or come up with a funny picture to send out! It always brings a smile to the receiving party:)

Teens are sometimes hard to buy for, I have to start looking for things right after the previous Christmas, that I know my nieces and nephews will like. I collect these small items through out the year, then I make them a new flannel pillow case:) So far so good, but as you are thinking about what to do for Christmas for your family and friends, it is high time for me too, to get on the wagon:) That is why this hub-page, is also a way for me to be accountable to, to eat the words I've just given you:)

Have to say, my idea for the men in the family is to make them camouflage pillow cases. I think they will like them? I checked at the local fabric shop for flannel camo, and believe it or not, they didn't have any! I said what, no camo flannel:) So I did find some material that was soft enough for a pillow case.

I don't know if I should share this or not? Last year for my father I bought him an out house? It was a miniature outhouse:) Made out of wood, it had the little door on it, with the crescent moon! He opened the door of the outhouse and to his surprise was 3 rolls of toilet paper:) So it was a toilet paper holder, built like an outhouse:) It did have a dowel to put a roll on the outside under the door. He laughed so hard, I thought he was going to fall over:) It was fun, because, my husband and brother put it together, just before we opened the gifts. My father was in suspense wondering what kind of gift he was getting:)

As for my mom, one year she was crocheting afghans for gifts. So we gave her a bunch of skeins of good quality yarn:) Enough to make more afghans. For those of you who don't knit or crochet, need to know that these people love yarn! It seems they can never have too much yarn! I think they are yarn addicts? So just to let you know, I too am a yarn addict! One day I was talking to a friend of mine, who has seen my stash of yarn...talking about, if I could find some yarn I was going to roll it into balls for decoration? She looked at me with big eyes and at our daughter and back at me and started laughing, yarn! I know where some yarn is, you have enough yarn to open your own store:) I thought that was funny, I got a chuckle out of that too:)

Well hope this gives you some ideas, and challenges you...to think about what you might want to do at Christmas time, for those you hold a special place in your heart for.

Lots of nice ideas and thoughts for Christmas gifts here. Christmas can be a very challenging time for gift-giving. I think you, as an individual, set the atmosphere for Christmas....as you proved with your "scarf giving." I do like to always remember the reason we celebrate Christmas - it is the Birth of Jesus Christ!

      Merry Christmas!

"So have you thought about gifts yet for Christmas? What you might get? Who you have to get them for?" - Ohh, I always ask these questions to my self as early as August! You see, I love Christmas. Your hub just reminded me to write my gift list NOW. Thanks!

That is cool Judi:) I have heard that if a person is in the heat, and they look at a picture...of the snow on the mountain, that they feel cooler! I guess the story is true:) I know what you mean about fabric too!

Wow I'm impressed that you knit gloves! Scarves I can do, I crochet and you are right about yarn. I recently moved into a new home and I was amazed at how much yarn I had. I love fabric too. Great hub with good ideas. We are still hot Down here in the south so when I read that was starting to get cold I thought how nice!

Listlady, Rtalloni your right, it is nice to start acting now, even if it is just your list:) Jill, I have to agree with you, it does get harder...to make time to make gifts:) I know it is easier for me, when I have worked on things throughout the year! Thank you all for stopping by:)

Wow, it's that time of the year already? Oh, no, I always tell myself I will start early next year but it's next year already! I too love making my own gifts but every year it is getting harder to have everything on time. Thanks for this beautiful reminder Heart! I love your ideas and the photos you used.

      God bless!

Lately, it has begun to feel like Christmas is always...well, right around the corner as my mother used to say...which used to freak me out actually. You know if I went around the corner - it would be there - or something would.

But I want it to be wonderful - so it is time to start preparing. Yay!

      Thanks for this reminder.

Yes, Christmas is sneaking up on us. It is so much nicer to be able to be in thought for a special gift, and then find it, with out the pressure of time.

      Heart,

I can remember growing up we never started on Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Now, in the middle of September it's almost too late to get ready. I gotta go with the flow, but I sure did miss the slower times.

No thank you, Hello for stopping by:) Yes, the yarn is a great gift (Special, Marliza and Wife Who Saves), if you can go to a yarn shop, they will show you what's the most desired yarn:)

Dave, yes there is no light that shines brighter, than the name of Jesus in this world! The true meaning of Christmas is Love:) I too, want to walk the narrow road...I feel Christmas time, is a time to reflect His love to others, through the gift of love. You know that saying that says, they don't know how much you care, until you show how much you care:) Merry Christ-mas!

For me personally Christmas is about remembering a very special child "Baby Jesus" God's heavenly son who came to earth as a human to eventually surrender up His life to free me from satan's grip through sin, and to allow me a narrow pathway back to Almighty God and heaven where I came from.

      Brother Dave.

I can't believe Christmas is so close! I can hardly believe that summer is done...I want it back! LOL

I did start a list that is on my refrigerator. It is for my kids. When I hear, "I need" or "I want"...I say, "put it on the list!" I already have a couple of items on it. My hardest gifts to buy are for my husband and my sister and her family. I am not a craft person, so I do not make gifts. I wish I could!

I love the yarn idea. My best friend loves to knit and sew. I might get her some yarn and fabric. I will put that on my list!

Thanks for the great start on Christmas!!!
