Labels for Handmade Crafts

Handmade gifts are unique items that are made with care by sewing, quilting, crochet, knitting and many other do-it-yourself crafts. When making a gift from fabric, yarn, or other materials you want to put your mark on it and let the person receiving the item know that it is handmade.

That is where personalized or generic labels come in handy. Labels can tell a person who made the item, what materials it is made from and how to care for a garment or other accessory.

Labels can be made of paper, fabric, printed or personalized for each individual item that you create. So whether you are sewing, quilting, knitting or crocheting your item can have a unique label telling someone that you made it!

Upon completing your handmade gift whether it is a washable item or a glass item, clothing or home decor, decide if you need to place a temporary or permanent care or made by label with your gift before wrapping it or putting it in a gift bag.

Get creative and at your own personal label to your gift bag also!

Labels can be iron on, pinned on or just placed with the item in a gift box or gift bag. There are several places online that offer free printable care labels and labels that say that the item is handmade.

There are also labels available that can be personalized with your name or company name on the label. It can say anything from "Handmade by Me" to Quilted By, Crocheted by, Knitted by, An Original By, Made in the USA, etc.

Labels can also tell someone how to wash a fabric or item made from yarn so they are able to take proper care of the item.

Be careful when using adhesive labels on items you may not be able to remove the sticker easily and it may damage the item. Sometimes pinning or laying the label with the item works best.

Iron On Labels

Iron-on labels work well for handmade items. These can be written or printed on with your own special message or care information.

Iron on labels come in no-iron fabric labels, durable flexible labels, and self-laminating heavy duty labels depending on your project.

The no-iron on labels allow you to write on your project, peel of the back and stick it on. The durable flexible labels are extra sturdy and resist water and tearing. The self-laminate labels allow you to wipe your labels clean and are tough and water resistant.

Choose your label according what type of item you have made. If it needs to be washed be sure to go for a water resistant machine washable label.

Iron-on labels are great for items that you want to make sure that are cared for year after year and that they are carefully taken care of. Consider these labels when you have a special gift to give to someone that you have put a lot of time and effort into.

Printed Labels

Printed labels are meant to be temporary and removed from the item that you made unless it is a non-washable craft than it can be stuck on to the item.

You can easily print your own care or made by labels using your printer, labels or just plain paper and pin them on.

These labels can be creative, colorful or just plain black and white lettering. Add your own personal touch or special note to give along with your handmade gift.

It's easy to forget to add identifying and/or care labels to handmade gifts. This is a good reminder.
