Costume Ideas for the letter J

Updated on December 2, 2014

Are You Looking For Costumes Starting With The Letter J?

The world is divided between those people who have a costume party with no theme (and guests wish there was, because they're spoilt for choice at the costume store) and those who have a party with a theme (and guests wish it didn't because there's this cool costume they've always wanted the chance to buy/hire). Can't win!

A party based on a particular letter of the alphabet, which in the current case we shall call 'J,' has a lot going for it. The great advantage with having a letter as a theme is that guests are less restricted: They can work within their chosen budget, be as creative or conservative as they wish and with J being a mid-range, not over-used letter like those vowels that get everywhere, there's a good range of possibilities, some of which we aim to demonstrate below. It's not a comprehensive list, but you can use it to give your guests ideas (if they need them). We do update it from time to time and we're always open to suggestions for additions in order to help others further.

Joseph - A well known Biblical character, father of Jesus Christ in a Nativity play, he wears a traditional full-length Arabian-style robe. Jester - Jester is a joker, jokester, fool, wit-cracker, prankster or buffoon was a person employed to tell jokes and provide general entertainment, typically by a European monarch. Two of him are also found in a pack of playing cards. Jesters thought to have worn brightly coloured clothes and eccentric hats in a varied pattern. Their hats were especially distinctive; made of cloth, they were floppy with three points, each of which had a jingle bell at the end. The three points of the hat represent the donkey's ears and tail worn by jesters in earlier times. Another thing distinctive about the jester was his mock scepter, known as a bauble. You can hire as well as buy a costume and accessorize your outfit with face paint, using it to either paint on a broader smile and accentuate the eyes or copy the multi-colourways costume design with a similarly decorated face

Jesse James(September 5, 1847 - April 3, 1882) - An American outlaw, Wild West legend, gang leader, bank, stagecoach, train robber and murderer from the state of Missouri and the most famous member of the James-Younger Gang. A suitable costume might consist of a tuxedo/sharp suit and tie or bow-tie with a gun and shoulder holster, fake cigarettes and any number of gadgets. Even a skin-diving suit could be considered (Thunderball) or a naval uniform (The Spy Who Loved Me). Consider also some of his guises throughout the films - Sheikh (The Spy Who Loved Me); Scotsman (OHMSS) and Astronaut (Moonraker). Some of these items are available to hire or buy.

There have also been many other films influenced by Bond; these including the "Matt Helm" films with Dean Martin as the main character, "Johnny English", the "Flint" series with James Coburn, and. of course, the "Austin Powers" series with Mike Myers. Bond-style secret agent series' such as "I Spy","Get Smart" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." were also popular In the 60s and have also been turned into movies.

'Hi, just pointing out, Jason' was actually from 'Friday The 13th' movies, not 'Halloween'.

This is such a clever idea. That's what I love about Squidoo, coming across concepts that never would have occurred to me!
