Costume Ideas Starting With The Letter O

Oliver Twist

Oliver Twist is a popular character from a book by Charles Dickens. The character was a street urchin in Victorian times, and as such, his costume could consist of a plain white shirt, ragged trousers and a cap. You could also add an accessory to this costume of a wooden bowl, as known from the most famous 'I want some more' scene, however this is not necessary.

Oliver Hardy

Paired up with Stan Laurel, this duo were very famous in the early days of cinema. Costumes based on these two would best involve suits and bowler hats. They are seen in many different costumes and outfits in their films (overalls for the piano shifters, and also legionnaires), but the suits are the most iconic ones however.

Old Man or Lady

This may have to be a bit of a charity shop trawl to find an old fashioned dress / clothes, or borrow something from an older person that you know. Complete your outfit with a comb over wig for the men, or a Granny wig for the ladies. A pair of wire rimmed glasses will finsih the required look.

Officer and a Gentleman

This costume idea is a very popular one for many different types of parties, usually based off of the film of the same name from 1982. This costume simply consists of a white navel jacket with black/gold trim, white trousers and a matching peaked hat. Because of the popularity of this idea it is a very good and easy costume for anyone to do.

There are many differenty outlaw costumes you can do, as the term Outlaw is a very general concept. For example you could go as English folk legend Robin Hood, as he was an outlaw, or you could go as a wild west baddie as this is usually more related to Outlaws. Depending on which time period you choose to be an Outlaw from, your outfit would look completely different.

Optimus Prime

Leader of the Autobots in the Transformers cartoons/movies, Optimus Prime is quickly becoming a fan favourite character to a lot of people due to the success off the last few Transformers films directed by Michael Bay. Costumes based off of this character can be incredibly hard to make, however there are a few costumes available to buy now. You also do get a choice with these as the new design for the Transformers and the older 'T1' designs as they are called, are completely different. Rubies currently have the licence to these costumes so all costumes are made by them.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan was one of the famous Jedi warriors from the Star Wars films and is a very popular choice for many different events and occasions. A costume based off of this character is not too hard to do and can be one of the easier costumes to find. This costume would consist of a cream or light brown robe, tied around the middle with a dark brown belt. An optional piece to finish it off would be a long, dark brown cloak. Accessories for this idea would be tall, dark brown overboots, and a blue lightsabre. Many different companies make replica lightsabres, so its up to you to decide how much you want to spend on one.

Olive Oyl

The super thin girlfriend of Popeye the Sailor Man. This character is often never thought of, but there are a few companies that make costumes of her. For couples it is also brilliantly paired with Popeye himself. A costume would be a simple red blouse with a white trim around the neck, a long, black skirt and black heels. You could also get a short black wig to finish it off if you need to.

Oompah Loompah

The workers in the famous film 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', these characters were very distinctive because of there orange skin and green hair. A costume would consist of baggy white trousers, with attached white braces, a red top, a short green wig (or dye your hair green if you are slightly more daring) and top that all off by using bright orange face or body paint on your face, hands and any other part of you that may be visible. The later Tim Burton film featuring Johnny Depp as Willie Wonka had the Oompah Loompahs in shiny red boiler suits.

Oddjob was one of the many Bond villains, this time from Goldfinger, being a henchmain to the main villain, Auric Goldfinger. This is again a very simple costume idea, and is probably not thought of by many people as it's somewhat of an odd choice. A costume based on Oddjob would be a two piece black suit with a bowler hat. You can add to it more by adding a black waistcoat and also a black tie/cravat.

Octopussy Operative

These were villains in the Bond film, Octopussy. These costumes aren't based off of a specific character as opposed to an amount of characters who all wore the same outfit. This costume is simply a red jumpsuit with a small Octopus symbol/insignia on the left breast. Accessories could be a weapon and also an Eastern, Yasmak styled headdress.

Olivia Newton John

Wear either a pink ladies costumes or the black top and tight black trousers (and a blonde curly wig) from the last scene in Grease. Both are available to purchase.

Osama Bin Laden

(Born March 10, 1957) was a member of the prominent Saudi Bin Laden family and the founding leader of al-Qaeda, best known for the September 11 attacks on the United States and numerous other mass-casualty attacks against civilian targets. A caricature mask has been on the market for several years. Although he was eventually killed in a raid by US troops, he may still be a choice for a Bad Taste/Non-PC party theme, a variation, based on a black waste bag, being Osama Black Bin Bag

Ostrich/Emu Runaround

Run Around Ostrich Made famous back in the late 70's & early 80's by Bernie Clifton, this fantastic 'Pantomime Quality' item is always a fun choice

Ozzy Osbourne

O'Hara (Scarlett)

Okay, I admit, clutching at straws! Character in Gone with the Wind - use a Southern Belle Victorian costume and a brown wig

Obama (Michelle or Barack)

Another idea to try to give you as many ideas as possible. There is an overhead mask for The President.
