Creative Christmas Decor with Ice Skates
Ice Skates Make Sharp Decorations
Decorating a home for Christmas can be exciting. Starting to decorate the home helps to build anticipation for Christmas Day. While many decorations for Christmas that are used in the home are traditional and carry with them a great many memories of Christmases past, sometimes it is nice to start a new tradition or make some new decorations for this special holiday.
One creative decoration I am using in my home is a pair of ice skates. I had an old pair of ice skates in a closet. If you do not have ice skates you can easily find them in the fall at a flea market or yard sale, or online. You could also use newer skates. I took a simple evergeen garland from the arts and crafts store and cut it into pieces to place inside each ice skate and added some faux berries as well. The pair of ice skates was then placed on top of the china closet in my dining room. I think it looks fabulous!
Wreath with Ice Skate
Another great way to use one or both of the ice skates is to hang them on a wreath, or to hang them on a wall in your home. I love the look of the wreath I made with just one skate and a bow and berries from my local craft store.
I adore making creative use of items that are readily available, especially if the item can be upcycled instead of discarded. For me, ice skates bring back memories of winter skating and Christmases past.
Mantel Display or Centerpiece
Ice skates can also be decorated to use on a mantel or as a centerpiece on a table. I took a newer pair of white skates I found online and replaced the laces with red cord from the fabric store and then added a big red ribbon bow to each skate. The red and white combination definitely fits in at Christmas time.
