Decoration Ideas for a Backyard Barbecue

Updated on March 12, 2011

Will you be holding a backyard barbecue gathering soon? Whether you are cooking out for a small group of family members and close friends or hosting a huge bash, you can greatly enhance the mood of the event with appropriate and fun decorations!

Decoration Ideas for a Backyard Barbecue

Running short on ideas for decorations for your backyard barbecue? Here are several suggestions you may want to try!

  • Checkered Tablecloth – Nothing says "casual outdoor meal" better than a checkered tablecloth. Go with a traditional red and white check pattern to make guests nostalgic for childhood picnics and barbecues or opt for a color that coordinates with your home's outdoor living space. Go with plastic or paper if you don't expect to host barbecue parties regularly. Cloth or quality vinyl may be worth the money if you think you'll use the table covering a few times each season.
  • Citronella Candles – Strategically placed citronella candles are a practical and attractive decorating touch for any backyard barbecue or other type of outdoor party. Not only can citronella candles cast a warm glow on your guests, they can serve the very important purpose of keeping mosquitoes at bay, even on the hottest and humid summer evenings.
  • Utensil Holder Centerpiece – Since people usually serve themselves at backyard barbecue parties, why not place a fun container filled with utensils in the center of the table where the buffet will be set up? This is a whimsical, yet practical way to decorate your table while providing guests with the supplies they need to enjoy the wonderful barbecue recipes that you have prepared for them.
  • Picnic Baskets – Picnic baskets add a fun touch to the décor for any backyard barbecue. Set medium sized picnic baskets on the food display table and place bags of chips or condiments in them for a cute presentation. If you have a large picnic basket, consider lining it with heavy plastic and filling it with ice. Place cans and bottles of your favorite beverages inside to chill.
  • Festive Party Lights – Use festive party lights to convey the theme for your backyard barbecue party as well as to shed some light on the event when the afternoon starts to drift into evening. Choose any design that is appropriate for your particular event – from cute cactus plants for a western-style barbecue to palm trees if the party has a beach theme with seafood as the main course.

If you plan on having a bunch of backyard bbq parties, why not invest in a pool? Pools and BBQ parties pretty much go hand in hand and you would be surprised at how affordable getting a pool can be. Check out NationWidePools.com for above ground and in ground pools and be sure to follow us on Twitter @nationwidepools! Thanks -Ken
