Who Doesn't Like Halloween?

I love Halloween, always have ! I guess my love of this holiday started when I was a child. It was a more innocent time then. Our parents had no problem letting us roam the neighborhood trick or treating. We came home with bags full of candy and surprises. It was a different time then.

Halloween might not as "big" as it once was, but you can still create Halloween décor for your home with this cute and easy to make Happy Halloween Wreath. Use it for your door, or as a party décor item for anywhere in your home.

I used a Cricut Explore for the die cuts on this project, but you could use any cutting machine with Halloween images for your cuts.

Supplies For The Happy Halloween Wreath

Here's what you need for the Happy Halloween Project

  1. A wicker style paper plate holder
  2. Black spray paint or acrylic paint
  3. Orange acrylic paint
  4. Brown or orange glitter glue
  5. Orange cardstock paper
  6. White thin lace (or any color you prefer)
  7. White paper glue (I like Elmer's glue)
  8. Glue gun and glue sticks
  9. Small paint brush or toothpick
  10. Scissors

I find lots of these pate holders and other craft items like glue and paint brushes at my local thrift stores. Not only do I help a worthy cause, but I also find great prices.

If I am buying supplies at the local craft stores, I always shop with a coupon ! I never buy at full prices\

Paint The Plate Holder With Black And Orange Paint

Step One -Paint The Base Of Your Wreath

Make sure to cover your work area with newspaper or a craft mat !

Your first step is to paint the wicker paper plate holder with spray paint or acrylic paint.

I used acrylic paint for this project, because I had some that I wanted to use up in my stash. However, you could use spray paint for the black base. Let the black paint dry.

After the black paint dries, do the rim with the orange paint. For this step, I used a small paint brush to paint the rim. Allow the orange paint to dry.

Take some glitter glue and cover the rim with as much glitter as you like. I used a brown color glitter glue...If you want an even brighter look, use glitter and glue for your trim

Let your base dry before going to the next step

Cut The Halloween Doily With The Cricut

Create Your Die Cuts

Let your imagination soar with all the die cuts available in the program for your machine. Explore the Halloween section of your program or load some SVG files to your cutter program.

You will want to cut a background that will fit in your plate. I chose a Halloween doily from the Cricut Explore design option. I also cut a Happy Halloween cut. You can select any combination for your wreath. Cut on the papers you have selected and set them aside

Make sure to use heavier cardstock for this project and set your machine to the right setting for the paper that you are using. Size the images to the size of your plate holder

I glittered my Halloween doily before I glued it onto the frame wreath. If you add glitter to your background make sure to allow the glitter or glitter glue to dry before the next step

Glue On Die Cuts

Once everything has dried, glue the die cuts on. I used regular white glue, but you could use any paper glue that you might have. adhesive tape would probably not hold, so use a glue that will be permanent

Add Lace Edging To Complete The Project

Final Steps For Your Happy Halloween Wreath

Once your die cuts have been glued, allow them enough time to dry.

With your glue gun, apply the lace on the inside of the plate/wreath and go completely around the inner edge of the plate holder. Make a loop to hang the plate and glue it in place. Place a button or a large rhinestone over the loop and lace and glue it in place

Some Final Thoughts And Tips For This Project

You can change around a few things for this project to make a completely different look !

  1. Instead of the black paint on the background of the plate, use orange and make the rim black.
  2. Use a florescent paint for the background to make a different look
  3. Vary the ribbon color to match the colors you have chosen for your background and the rim

Adorable! Great project, really simple-- could probably find some great baskets at thrift shops too. Thanks for sharing!
