How To Organize A Doctor Who Halloween Party

Updated on November 14, 2014

How to Host The Best Doctor Who Halloween Party

If you are like me and are a massive fan of the classic BBC TV program Doctor Who then one of the best ideas for a Halloween Party this year has to be a Doctor Who themed get-together doesn't it?

So, while we have a little time on our side (that wibbly wobbly old thing time!) then it is time to start thinking about organizing your Doctor Who themed party for Halloween.

With a few props, some appropriate decorations and of course costumes, you and your friends can have lots of timey-wimey fun at your Doctor Who Halloween Party.

You will also want to give your guests plenty of notice of the theme of your event so that they have plenty of time to choose costumes which turn them into one of the Doctors, companions or aliens.

As a fan of this classic TV program what better theme for your Halloween Party could there be than Doctor Who!

Turn your Front Door Into the TARDIS Entrance

If you love making things then with some wood or sturdy board, you could re-create the TARDIS entrance over the front door of your venue (this is so you won't have to damage the actual door). Don't forget to paint it blue!

Use your printer to make a sign that will go over the door, saying "Police Public Call Box". Print the PULL TO OPEN text for the left side; you may want to print out a St. John's logo as well. Finally, place a flashing lantern over your "TARDIS".

On the day of your party, you can tell your guests, "It's bigger on the inside" as they come in!

If you are feeling really inspired then of course you might even want to consider seeing if you can make your own TARDIS! Alternatively if time isn't on your side then you buy the amazing TARDIS Door Sticker shown below.

Choose Your Dr Who Themed Halloween Decorations

Instead of hanging the usual party streamers, try red paper bowties. TARDIS lamps or planet-shaped hanging lanterns are also a nice touch.

Thinking about incorporating some of these brilliant Doctor Who decorating ideas:

  • Scatter "Bad Wolf" posters and washable graffiti all around your event area. You can use these for a game later on.
  • Using large boards, create a false wall over an existing one, and carve a large crack onto it, like the one in little Ameliea Pond's house. Affix a small lamp behind the false wall for lighting effects.
  • Hang several digital photo frames featuring continuous slide shows. If you want to freak your guests out a little, include images of weeping angels about to attack the viewer.
  • Stretch an old nylon stocking across the bathroom mirror and paint Lady Cassandra's face on it.
  • Paint a Halloween mask light brown, and place it in an empty aquarium or glass tank to create a miniature Face of Boe.
  • Place a Halloween prop hand in a jar to commemorate the Tenth Doctor.

Of course you can also use them again for your Doctor Who Party at Christmas or for Birthdays!

The TARDIS Console Makes The Perfect Food Table

The centerpiece of the TARDIS is the command console, and the centerpiece of a party is often the food table. You can make your food table mimic the command console for your Doctor Who Halloween Party, using cleverly positioned props and beverage towers.

Start with the vertical tubes at the center of the console. You can use PVC pipes, or empty wallpaper rolls; paint them silver or wrap them in foil. Arrange them vertically in a tight group at the center of your table. Hold your cylinders in place with thin wires attached to the ceiling.

Place blue or green lights at the base of the arrangement to make it look more stunning. Surround this with your beverage towers (with or without drinks in them) or a couple of cylindrical glass vases. On one side, you may want to place a foil-wrapped box with buttons and levers glued to it.

Position your snacks and treats around this centerpiece. In case you intend to serve a lot of food, set aside an extra table for the larger dishes.

Creating The Right Atmosphere For Your Doctor Who Halloween Party

Now that we have the TARDIS entrance, the tables are planned, the decorations are in place we need to make sure that our guests enjoy the event. So to make sure that it's a Halloween Party they never forget:

Set The Mood With Music

This would be a great time to play the Doctor Who soundtrack, but if you don't own one, you can play any music appropriate for the event. Compile a playlist ahead of time, with the TARDIS sound effect in between tracks.

Provide Doctor Who Themed Entertainment

You can create a makeshift video wall by hooking up a laptop to a projector and a set of speakers. Project your favorite Doctor Who episodes onto a white wall or a large white surface so all your guests can watch.

Think of fun games suitable to the age of your guests, such as a Doctor Who trivia game, or a planet (jawbreaker) eating contest. You can have your guests guess how many "Bad Wolf" signs you have all around; the one who gives the closest number wins something cool like a sonic screwdriver or a TARDIS journal.

Serve Themed Food

Add a drop of blue food coloring into your favorite punch to create an intriguing TARDIS punch. Have platefuls of Jammie Dodgers, Adipose Marshmallows, or Van Gogh iced cookies for light snacking. Fill paper cups with fish fingers and serve them with a custard-like dip.

You might want to prepare some K9 hotogs, or Dorium Maldovar baked potato heads. Colorful themed cupcakes or a homemade TARDIS cake can double as a centerpiece for your Doctor Who Halloween Party. If you need creative recipes, you can find some in Whovian cookbooks or online.

Enjoy The Party!
