Easter and family
Springtime is a special time of the year as it symbolizes warmer weather and beautiful lush green grass and flower gardens that brighten up the day after a long snowy winter. When I think of spring I think of many things but the one thing that is the centerpiece of spring is the Easter celebration. Easter is a special religious holiday and it celebrates the resurrection of our lord Jesus Christ who was crucified and died on the cross. Good Friday is a solemn day which commemorates the day he was crucified and Easter is the celebration of his resurrection. The season of Lent precedes Easter and it is a period of reflection, prayer and a time when we repent for our sins and look to Jesus for hope and guidance in our life.
Easter is a holiday that brings family closer and it makes us realize how important it is to have Jesus in our life and teaches us to pray and hold on to hope and have joy in our hearts. From the time I was a little kid I remember mom and dad would take us to church and have my sisters and I all dressed up for the occasion. My mom and sisters would be all dressed in their spring dresses and dad and I would wear a suit and tie. It was a very happy occasion knowing the true meaning of Easter which we kind of understood but as kids we were also interested in the Easter bunny and all the candies we would find in our Easter basket.
I have precious memories of those early years of our childhood and the family celebrations and when I think back to those days I can still picture my mom and dad and my younger sisters as we would walk to church on Easter Sunday and have a nice family outing to celebrate Easter and then we would get to enjoy our candies which the Easter bunny had left for us. It was a very happy time and it always makes me smile when I think back to those days.
Having a family of my own and a son allows me the opportunity to celebrate these wonderful holidays and share in the joy of seeing our son smile and enjoy the kid things we all enjoyed during these festive holidays. We all are kids at heart and when we experience the joys through our child's eyes it brings us full circle and makes us understand the true meaning of love and family and having God in our lives. I feel very blessed to have a wife and son who mean everything to me and everyday to me is a celebration. Holidays are very joyous times and we feel and know the religious significance of each of them yet we should also be grateful for everyday we have to spend together as a family because our time is fleeting and we want to hold on to these special times for as long as we are able to.
As I have experienced life with my parents and sisters through childhood to early adulthood and now with a family of my own I realize that the values I learned as a young boy still are a big part of my life and that is a central part of how I live. I was raised to always be respectful of others, to be thankful always and to have a spirit and drive based on hope, joy and love. I am trying to help my son through some difficult times and inspire him to have heart, faith, love and a spirit that will help guide him and teach him to never give up. So as we celebrate Easter with our family we will remember Jesus loves us and will always be there for us and he will walk with us in our life and keep us strong and he believes in each and every one of us.
Love you Maria and Matty!
