Greeting Cards

A homemade greeting card is the perfect way to finish off a handmade gift or a great option for including a handmade component in a gift. There are numerous ideas out there for both Mother's Day cards as well as more general spring cards. Mix and match different components to fix your mom's preferences and styles. Of course, don't forget to include a few buttons!

Jewelry

Buttons are an inexpensive jewelry component that add so much character. Mom is sure to receive a regular stream of compliments on any piece of homemade button jewelry. Choose from bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and rings. I have linked a couple resources here, but you can search Google or Pinterest for a wide range of jewelry tutorials if you need some more options.

DIY: Button Bracelet.

You can also crochet flowers and include button centers!

Flowers / Bouquet

There is nothing wrong with giving Mom a bouquet of real flowers for Mother's Day, but she may enjoy a bouquet of crafted flowers as well. You can make flowers out of many different kinds of fabric and paper. A button is a perfect finishing touch as a flower center. Of course you don't need to feel limited to this and can use buttons any way you like for your flowers. Don't forget to put them in a vase or tie them up with a pretty ribbon or string.

Picture Frame or Framed Artwork

There are a number of creative ideas out there for both button picture frames and button artwork that you can frame. If you spend any time on Pinterest, you may have seen the button initial wall art pieces that are floating around. Personally I think that you can pick one or the other, as doing both for one project could be a little much, but that's just my opinion. Don't be afraid to customize the colors and subjects for any of the tutorials that you use as inspiration for your own projects.

Decorated Napkins

Put together a quick handmade Mother's Day gift by embellishing napkins with button detail. Both of the tutorials here fashion buttons into little bunches of fruit, but the buttons stand just fine on their own, too. You can get more adventurous and make napkins yourself, but there is nothing wrong with napkins that you purchase either. Would your mom enjoy a unique vintage set? Take a little time to scour some local thrift stores. Look for vintage buttons to accent your vintage napkins.

How to Make a Button Picture Frame

Decorated Vase

Keep your eyes open for vases at thrift stores and garage sales or watch for deals at big box stores so you don't break the bank on this gift. Dollar stores are also a great option for picking up simple, plain vases that you can decorate. Alternatively, if you don't want to decorate the vase, fill it up with buttons in a similar fashion to decorative stones or rice.

Finish off your button gift with handmade gift wrap.

Add a final handful of buttons to complete your button gift for Mother's Day. Attach a few to simple newspaper or kraft paper wrapping or make a button gift tag. Are you tying up a box package with string? Thread a few buttons onto the string before you tie it.
