Instead of purchasing a new Halloween costume each year for Halloween, or for that next costume party, you can save tons of money by using supplies around the house to create fun, easy, and inexpensive Halloween costumes. It's fun to make costumes, and kids love to help and get involved too!

Here's a list of just some of cool costumes you can make in no time at all:

Football Player - For any age, or gender, use winter gear, including color-coordinated sweat pants and sneakers, coupled with your favorite football jersey and some black face paint under the eyes are perfect for a quick sports costume.

Bride - For little girls, a used communion outfit can double as a bridal costume! Just add some flowers to hold and presto, you have a bride outfit.

Box of Cereal - With a little help from parents, and some cardboard, decorate with construction paper and cut-outs from your favorite box of cereal! Black sweat pants and sneaks or color coordinated sweat pants complete the outfit.

Playing Card - Using 2 poster boards, and either red and black markers, create an ace of hearts, or spades, etc. Use string to connect the back and front. Add red or black sweatpants and sneaks, and to complete the costume, use washable black or red face-paint or marker to paint matching hearts, spades, etc. on your cheeks.

Black Cat - For any age, combine black sweatshirt, sweatpants or tights, add whiskers and nose using face-paint, ears and tail can be made from pipe-cleaners and felt.

Groucho Marx - Using black felt, cut out large eyebrows and a mustache, add glasses and a cigar which can be made using a rolled up brown bag and black/grey marker for the tip; for hair, part your hair in middle and tie in back. To complete the costume, borrow a suit jacket and tie.

Policeman/woman - Slick back your hair with mouse or gel, add sunglasses, a blue shirt, black pants, and most important, a homemade police badge or sheriff star which can easily be made by covering cardboard with tin foil, and use black marker to write "POLICE" on the badge (search on images for ideas on what badges look like).

Raggedy Ann/Andy - Ann: Add a white apron to any red or blue or plaid shirt (preferably red/blue and white), blue pants or jeans; Andy: add suspenders to any red or blue shirt, blue pants or jeans; sneaks, and for hair, buy red yarn and create the hair easily by using long strands of yarn and use one piece of yarn to tie in the middle for a quick wig; cover with hat. For finishing touch, use face-paint to draw round red circles on cheeks, red nose and black lines for eyelashes (search on images for raggedy ann/andy pics for ideas).

Priest - Black shirt, black pants, and for the clerical collar, it can be all white, or all black with white in the front. To finish the costume, add a cross on a necklace. This can be made by cutting cross out of cardboard and spraying with gold spray paint.

Zombie - Facepaint including white face, black around eyes, mess up your hair and add powder for "old" effect, then for clothes, wear something dark, old blazer jacket for boys/men, or old torn dress or shirt for girls/women. The most important thing here is the face makeup.

Hobo - Wear old pants and shirt and cut strips at bottom of pants or make holes in shirt to look worn. A must for this costume, tie a bandana or plaid/colored cloth napkin onto a stick (stuff with paper) to carry over your shoulder (be safe, no pointy ends).

Cowboy - Plaid shirt, jeans, brown/black boots (work boots will do), and of course a cowboy hat. Yahoo!

Homemade costumes are best. A worn pair of jeans and turn into a hobo, rodeo clown, hippie, etc. All ata minimal cost and if a person has minimal sewing skills and it is endless.

Thanks for your comment, wetnosedogs. You're so right...the best part of Halloween is when you get creative and make crafts, costumes, and just plain have fun with it. :-)
