Easy and Scary Homemade Halloween Costumes
Boo! Halloween is on its way, a perfect time to bring out the chills and thrills with a great scary costume. However, costumes can get expensive when store bought. But, with a little makeup (This is the only time of the year where you can paint yourself to look dead and get away with it), a few simple, easily found household items and a few inexpensive store-bought accessories, a scary costume can be made at a low cost. So, move away from the traditional scary store-bought costumes of devils, witches, skeletons and ghouls and try these creative ideas that are easy to make!
A costume in your pajamas! Wear your pj’s, add slippers and a robe for fun. Create a zombie look by painting your face white, darken the area around your eyes with black and red lip liner for a more tired look. Add gashes on the corners of your head by first drawing a red line and encircling it with black makeup and purple eye shadow (make sure to blend). Create a bed-head look by adding frizz and a little gel. Now you are more than just tired!
Take an old tank top and create many stab-like holes in it. Line the holes and the open spots on you with fake blood. For an added effect take an old knife and remove the blade so you will have just the handle. Glue it to a belt and put the belt on under your shirt. Make sure the handle sticks out of one of the holes you made. You’ve just been stabbed!
Dead Man Walking
Make a knife handle the way you would as if you were a stabbing victim and instead of attaching it to a belt, glue it to a headband and put it on (if you can) so your hair hides it. Then wrap bandages around the wound. Paint your face white and darken the areas around your eyes with black. Line your eyes with red lip liner to make your eyes appear bloodshot. Begin walking creepily!
Be a victim from ‘Psycho’ by getting a clean plastic shower curtain, cutting a few slashes in it and adding some fake blood. Wrap it around yourself (with a strapless garment underneath if you would like) and now you have a Janet Leigh ‘Psycho’ look. Add a shower cap if you would like.
A twist on the regular devil costume. Wear business attire, accessorize with a gothic necklace and carry around bright red pens with a little black book. Go around at the party and ask people if they would like to sell their souls.
Create a dead look by painting your face white, graying the area around your eyes, adding some red lip liner as an eyeliner and wearing black ragged clothes. Accessorize with a small bell. Every time someone asks what you are, ring the bell. You are a Dead Ringer.
No looking in the mirror required for this! Dress in street clothes (but old ones that you don’t mind getting dirty) and wear a nametag that says "Hello I'm Mary." Add the scary effect by covering yourself in fake blood. For some more fun, add bandages and make bruises with a strike of red lip liner encircled and blended by black makeup and purple eye shadow.
Spirit Rising Out of the Grave
Find or buy a white shirt and white pants. Cover your clothes with long strips of gauze, making sure to leave a little hanging. Encase your head with the gauze as well. For an added effort create a cardboard cutout of a tombstone with a hole in the middle and fit it to your body. Attach it with duct tape, glue or just make sure it fits tightly. Lastly, paint your face white for a boo effect.
Dead Little Girl from "The Ring"
Wear a white nightgown and style your hair or buy a wig that is straight black or dark brown. Then add gel to make your hair appear wet and position it in front of your face. To scare everyone, when someone addresses you say “seven days” in a low, creepy voice!
Create a dead look by painting your face white, gray the area around your eyes with black paint and wear black ragged clothes. Attach thank you notes to yourself. A simple and eerie costume!
Electric Chair Victim
All you will need is striped clothes or an orange jumpsuit for prison attire. Carefully add strategically placed burn marks for a scorched look. Make your hair frizzy and stand up, adding gel and hairspray to keep it in place. You have been officially electrocuted.
Similar to the Electric Chair Victim. For this costume, just take some old clothes and cut some holes in them and burn the edges. Frizz your hair and add smudged black marks on your face. For an added touch, carry a scorched and destroyed-looking umbrella. An electrifying costume!
