Easy to Make Mothers Day Craft Ideas

Updated on May 1, 2014

Mother's Day 2014

Making the most important woman in our lives happy is a feat that we all aim to do. She has been there from the start and will always be there for us no matter what. She never fails to give us her love and support in all that we do. Through the good and the bad, she will always be by our side and never cease to help and love us. Our mothers are all like that and we can’t help but love them for it. It seems difficult to be able to match how much they can care for us.

So at least once every year we get the chance to show her how special she is. We may not be able to repay her for all that she has done for us but at least we get to show her how great she is and how much we love her. These simple handmade crafts for Mother’s day will brighten her day knowing that you spent so much time and effort in trying to make something beautiful and meaningful for her.

Bouquet Crafts

Women love flowers and bouquets and mothers are no exception. So imagine how she would feel if she gets a special handmade bouquet on mother’s day? It will be truly exciting and satisfying to see her eyes light up when she sees your present.

Coffee Filter Flower Bouquets

What you need:

  • Coffee Filters – used or unused (Around 10 coffee filters per flower)
  • Cutter
  • Wire
  • Florist tape (or green colored tape)
  • Vase

How to make them:

  1. The number of coffee filters that you would need will depend on the size that you want your flower to look like. For starters, use around 10 coffee filters as this will provide you with enough volume. You can use used coffee filters as this will have a nice mocha color.
  2. Stack the coffee filters on top of each other.
  3. Prepare a long strip of wire. Be sure that it is long enough for the vase.
  4. Cute two holes in your stacked coffee filters. Thread the wire into the two holes.
  5. Fold the filters one by one. Fluff them according to your need. They will ball up into this fluffy, soft looking flower.
  6. Wrap the wire with the florist tape.
  7. Make more coffee filter flowers and arrange them in the vase.

Photograph Crafts

The best way to look back and reminisce is to go through some photos and of the most pleasant memories. Our mothers will love to go on a trip down memory lane and remember all the great moments that we shared. Scrapbooking is another option.

Mom DIY Photo Album

What you need:

  • Board or thick paper - plain
  • Beautifully designed wrapping paper or cut-outs
  • Scrapbook embellishments
  • Puncher
  • String
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Photographs

How to make them:

  1. Start making the page of the photo album first. Make a border for your pictures by cutting L-shaped figures from an interesting print. Glue the picture onto the board and the L-shaped borders on each corner of the picture. Add some cut-outs or scrapbook embellishments that are relevant to the picture (i.e. Day at the beach could include seashell cut-outs). To keep the photo album from being too cluttered, place just one picture per page.
  2. Create a timeline for the photos so that they tell a story. Usually photos make more sense if they are in chronological order.
  3. Stack the pages of your album together. Start making the cover for the album. Ideally the cover should be harder than the pages. If you do not have a thicker sized board, use 2 or 3 pieces of your board paper and wrap them together with the wrapping paper. Add embellishments to make your cover more visually interesting.
  4. Punch holes on your cover. Tie the pages together with the string.

Mother’s Day Cards

One great way to express our feelings is through greeting cards. A mother’s day greeting card that is specially made is much more special than one that we can just buy from a store no matter how beautiful that card would be. That is especially when you wrote the best and most heartwarming mothers day messages on it. Your mom would surely love that! so here's a craft that you can try to make your greetings more special.

What you need:

  • Colored board papers
  • String
  • Marker pen
  • Scissors

  1. Make all the cut-out first. Make three medium sized flowers (large enough for you to write on). Make 2 flower pots that can be big enough to place the flowers inside.
  2. Glue the two flower pots on all three sides except for the top part. Leave the middle open so you are able to place something inside.
  3. Write on the flowers your heartfelt message. It can be as simple as I LOVE YOU on each of the flowers. Write Happy Mother’s Day on the flower pot. Add some embellishment of the pot like a blade of grass to make it more attractive.
  4. String together the flowers using the string. Glue one end of the string inside the flower pot. Loop the top portion of the string so it can be easily be pulled.
  5. Place the flowers inside the flower pot. Pull to see the full effect.
