Family Christmas Fun

Updated on December 2, 2010

Chrismas Celebrations

Over the years there have been a number of Christmas celebrations where Family fun and Christmas traditions have played a big role. Some of the activities have been a yearly ritual while others have been done some years and not others.  What are some of the favorite Christmas family fun activities that I remember and that I think are the favorites of other family members or could be in the future?...

I loved the years when we went out hunting for a real Christmas tree.  Just the anticipation of that Saturday afternoon when our family would take a ride in the car to the tree farm was one of my favorite Christmas memories.

Making Christmas cookies has been a favorite since I was very, very small.  I would have to say this is probably a favorite of almost everybody whether you are the maker or the taker.

I have two boys and the anticpation as the days led up to Christmas were almost unbearable when they were young.  To relieve some of the frustration of the wait, I would periodically put small surprises in their stockings once I decorated and their stockings were out.  Sometimes it was daily, sometimes every couple days but they would certainly check regularly and they would find surprises in there.  Sometimes I would wrap them sometimes not.  They were not much, usually something for the dollar store but they were just happy for the surprise.  I do it to this day even though they are 16 and 21 now.  And they still check.

Fun Christmas Family games at gift exchange time.  Get a basket, each person buy a small, inexpensive or gag gift(whatever you choose).  Wrap it.  Our family is 28 people when all together so 28 gifts end up in there.  Each pick a number out of a hat.  Pick a gift out of basket in that orderbut one at a time. First person opens it   When 2nd persons turn, he can steal 1st persons gift or pick from basket and unwrap.  As more become unwrapped you can steal or pick when it's your turn. Sample gifts have been ( envelope containing cash, whoppi cushion, perfume, socks, garden gloves, tools)  It could be anything.  Lots of Christmas Family Fun.

Playing games on Christmas has always been a Fun Family Activity.  We have played, board games, cards, ping pong, Nintendo wii, foosball, billiards, basketball etc.

There have been years that we have decided that Chrismas evening is  more fun if we save one gift from the morning and open in on Christmas evening.  We haven't done this every year but some years we do.

Merry Christmas.  Feel free to comment on some of your favorite Christmas memories or traditions.

Good idea!!! Playing games is really a fun. I like to take this idea when we play games amongst our friends in club. I can introduce it on my child's birthday also.
