Fantasy Fest Adult Halloween theme this year: Aquatic Afrolic
Costume Ideas for Aquatic Theme
Aquatic Afrolic Theme
Aquatic Afrolic is Key West Fanasy Fest theme this year. In another couple of weeks Key West will be the spot for a most interesting adult Halloween. From Oct 21 to Oct 30, 2011 Adult Halloween partygoers will be donning their best aquatic costumes conforming with the aquatic theme and pack Duval street for 10 days of non stop contests, activities and fun. It is not a requirement to conform to the theme peep, just a guideline, wear what you've got, what you are comfortable in, your fancy costume, your glitter, bodypaints, lingerie or birthday suit, nobody cares but you are sure to be noticed and stand out of the crowd for wearing a creative costume.
The biggest party of the year for us conchs is about to commence and once its underway, no telling what you will see. The floats for the parade are being readied, seamstress making last minute adjustments, vendors placing their orders to feed the crowds, partygoers prepping their costumes, and the beer trucks double checking those draft beer taps.
This year's theme is Aquatic Afrolic. We all know what aquatic means but I confess I had to look up "afrolic". I have yet to find the meaning of it. I'm going to say it was a typo that could not be reversed so they went with it and they simply meant "Aquatic Frolic". Well that makes more sense, that would mean a playful aquatic themed adult costume such as a mermaid, sirens, sexy sea creatures, water snakes, water gods, pirates, fish, crabs, octopus, everything and anything related to the sea. Then again, it's Key West - not everything here has to make sense.
Festivities begin Friday October 21rst with the Coronation Ball where judges will crown the King and Queen of this years Fantasy Fest. Following is a list of some of the parties taking place on subsequent days. First off is Goombay an all day street festival with music and food, there is a Vampire Ball, several Key West's burlesque slideshow, a Wet and Wild Blue Party, Finnegans Green Party, Capt. Tony's Party in Plaid, the Wild Wild West Party, Pet Masquerade, Celebrity Look a Like Contests, Sloppy Joes Toga Party, Pretenders in Paradise costume competion with cash and prizes.
There is also a Monsters Ball, Pajama and Lingerie Party, the Pirate Bash, the Pimp and Ho Party and of course the main event Saturday October 29th, 2011 is last but not least Captain Morgans Fantasy Fest Parade! To find events and better plan your week with dates and times you can look up www.fantasyfest.net. I'm sure we would all love to attend every single party, realistically there's only so much the body can take, at least for me that is. You can sure try!
About 50,000 people from all over attend the Fantasy Fest Parade. I've been coming on and off for years and have met some really great people from all over. It does get a bit crowded so if you have issues with that, its worth noting that if you get there early enough and are willing to pay a little bit you can secure a private area at many of the restaurants or off sides from the restaurants to include private seating, being able to order food, drinks and have a private bath. The reserved seating at restaurants tend to be a bit pricier but we've found real bargains off sides the restaurants with first come first serve seating available and closed off to the crowds for their patrons, and of course with food and drinks available as well as clean bathrooms.
For parking, it is possible to find free street parking if you are there early enough. Do not fret thou as plenty of parking is still available. Parking lots spring up for a reasonable fee everywhere including churches, gas stations and private property.
I suggest as everyone makes a mad exit back home on Sunday following the parade, maybe take the day to enjoy Childrens Day if you have dragged them with you. No doubt if they are here you have secured or brought a babysitter with you and right about now they might be suffering from cabin fever.
Fantasy Fest closes Sunday Oct 30th, 2011 at La the Da officially, as the Fat Lady Sings! Happy Halloween!
