Favorite Things Box Gift Ideas

Updated on January 26, 2015

What is a Favorite Things Box?

A favorite Things box is a box filled with all of your favorite things to give someone special as a gift. The box can include pretty much anything you want so you can be creative. Some good gift ideas to include are your favorite beauty or skin care products, your favorite snacks or treats, books or magazines, and other special trinkets as long as it is personal to you. This is a great gift idea for your mom, sister, or best friend.

A fun idea is to have a favorite things box exchange so you are gifted back the favorite things of a special person in your life too. This gift idea works well at any price point as well. A nice personal touch is to type or write out a list of the items you included in your favorite things box and explain why you love them so much. Here is a list of some of my favorite things that were included in a favorite things box I gifted.

Baggu Reusable Shopping Bag Gift Idea

In an effort to be more green, I started using reusable shopping bags when I went shopping. I also like that it helped to eliminate more clutter by having countless paper and plastic bags laying around. The problem was I would use the bags and forget to put them back in the car or take them with me. My solution was to buy a reusable bag that could be stored in my purse. I use my purse bag all the time and not just for shopping. I use it when I go the beach as a beach bag; I use it for dirty clothes when I travel; I use it to bring in things inside that accumulate in my car; and I use it carry a sweater or water bottle when I am at a concert or on a day trip somewhere. This particular bag brand is Baggu which has super chic travel bags, purses, and make up bags.

Rosebud Lip Balm Gift Idea

I have been using Rosebud brand of lip balm for ten years and my love for it is still going strong. I love the taste and smell of it. I also like that Rosebud lip balm has a subtle color to it and looks like a lip gloss when applied to your lips but also works like a moisturizing lip balm. What I also love is the old fashion packaging. The Rosebud Perfume Company has been around since 1895.

479 Degrees Popcorn Gift Idea

I discovered 479 Degrees Popcorn in a snack bar at a hotel I stayed at. I liked it so much I tracked down the popcorn brand online to buy it again. The 479 Degrees Popcorn Company is based in San Francisco and makes the popcorn in small batches with really interesting flavor combinations. I love that a serving size is only around 100 calories but still tastes amazing.

Rifle Paper Co. Magentic Market Shopping Pad Gift Idea

For the longest time I always went to the store while forgetting what I needed to buy or buying things I already had multiples of. Since I started using a market pad on my fridge, I have not forgotten one item and stopped buying things I didn’t need. Every time I run out of something and want to remember to buy it (anything from groceries, cleaning supplies, to toiletries), I write it on my pad and take the list with me. I also use the pad for important reminders for the week such as appointments or errands I need to do.

The memo pad pictured above is from Rifle Paper Co. which is my absolute favorite stationary brand. They have absolutely gorgeous note cards, calendars, and hand painted invitations.

Klorane Dry Shampoo Gift Idea

Dry Shampoo was a huge beauty trend a year or two ago that I decided to try out. I find it to be super useful! My hair seems to get greasy on days I don’t wash my hair but my hair gets too dry if I wash it every day. My solution is to use a dry shampoo on non shampoo days. When your hair is completely dry, you spray the shampoo on your roots and then comb through. There is no need to wash it out afterwards. The shampoo naturally absorbs access oils and cleans your hair. I use it after I workout and don’t want to get my hair went.

Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables is one of my all time favorite books. When I have a hard time falling asleep at night, I found reading a book I have already ready many times before helps because I don’t have to focus on reading the page as intensely. Also, it helps to read a real book instead of reading things on a tablet device since the lights from the screen keeps your mind from transitioning to sleep mode. I really enjoy rereading beloved classics like Anne of Green Gables because it brings back great memories .

Laura Mercier Face Primer Gift Idea

A face primer pretty much does exactly what it sounds like, it primes your face for make up. Since you wouldn’t paint your walls without priming them first, why wouldn’t you do the same to your face? The primer helps to smooth out your skin and also helps to fill in fine lines. Since I started using a primer before I apply a light foundation or tinted moisturizer, I noticed my make up stays in place and lasts all day. If I am running late, I will just wear the primer without anything else. The trick is to apply the primer then wait 30 seconds or a minute to let it dry and absorb before adding your foundation. The brand Laura Mercier is my favorite because it feels super light on and does not clog my pores.

Trinket Dish Gift Idea

I love trinket plates and bowls and find they really useful. I really like the bold colors of this trinket dish and the big trend right now in home décor is geometric designs. In an effort to be more organized, I started using a trinket dish to be the “home” to my keys. I keep a really pretty dish near the entrance door just for my keys and sunglasses. This has helped me a tremendous amount and saves me time because I am not constantly trying to find my keys. I also keep another dish by my nightstand for my jewelry and cell phone.

Washi Tape Gift Idea

Washi tape is a type of tape that is super popular in Japan but I have no idea what the original function of it was. It comes all different colors and crazy patterns. I use Washi tape to decorate everything and anything you could think of such as vases, candles, and electronics. I also use it to mark important things in my calendar as well as to jazz up things I put on the fridge by creating faux frames.

BKR Water Bottle Gift Idea

I have been trying to be healthier by drinking more water and drinking less soda. I wanted to get a cute water bottle to carry around with me so I would be more green and would also save money so I wasn’t always buying soda or coffee when I am out and about. The BKR Water Bottle brand of water bottles was quite the buzz online. The company started in San Francisco and grew to have a celebrity cult following. If you see a celebrity leaving a yoga class in LA, there is an 80% chance they are carrying a BKR Water Bottle. I love that the water bottles come in so many pretty colors and the bottle is glass instead of plastic. I carry mine everywhere I go and use it all the time after I go running.

Linen Scarf Gift Idea

It is no surprise that I love scarves but my favorite scarf in particular is a large, soft linen scarf, especially when I travel. Whenever I go on a plane, I always bring a large scarf with me to use as a blanket or pillow. You can wear it onto the plane so it doesn’t take up any space in your carry on. I love that linen scarves are a lighter fabric so you can wear them both indoors and outdoors all year round. I have also used the scarf as an impromptu picnic or beach blanket.
