Fourth of July Festivities

Fireworks:

When getting ready to celebrate The 4th of July, everyone has their family traditions. I grew up in Florence, AL and they had a large fireworks show every year off a barge on the Tennessee River and there are festivities all day at MacFarland Park. If you are not going to a park, your church may have a get together at someone's house to shoot fireworks. There are so many people that attend the fireworks display.

Fireworks are a large part of the 4th of July celebration. When you purchase fireworks, be sure to get a variety the with lots of colors to show your Fourth of July pride. We have our favorites as I am sure everyone does. For the price, my family always buys the roman candles. Sparklers are always a great thing for the kids to play with. Always use caution when using fireworks and never light firecrackers or any fireworks for that matter in your hand. Always be safe first and foremost. When you light fireworks run he other way, just for safety. It is great to see the kids faces light up.

Music:
Be sure to have music in your backyard, to entertain your guests. You can have different music playing inside. If you have an outside party, it might be a good idea to have a "DJ" of sorts. Someone who can change the CD's will always need to have loud speakers so you can keep your get together going with a bang. If it is feasible having a live band perform and it is wonderful idea that will bring great entertainment and memories for you, your family and your friends.

Grilling:
It is common place to cook ribs for The Fourth of July but, it is important to cook for all of your guests including children. Cooking for your guests as well as the children. You will want to have hot dogs, hamburgers, or something that the children will eat. Shish-kabobs are always popular with the adults.

Activities:
For those lucky enough to have a swimming pool in the backyard, there are many water activities and games to be played. Here are some of the games that we play at our pool.

Water Basketball:

You are not able to dribble obviously but, it is cool to be able to pass the ball. We have an above ground pool and we were able to turn the basketball goal around and it be just right to shoot at. We would play two on two and had a great time. The only draw back is when the ball goes out of the pool and you have to go get it.

Water Volleyball:

This is fun as well as great exercise. Get a large beach ball or if adults are playing, you might use a volleyball. Hit the beach ball back and forth and keep score if you like. Of course if you can also throw it at each other and play water dodge ball, lol. Don't think that one will work well cause it's hard to move fast in the water.

Swim laps against someone and see who is the fastest. Competition is a good thing. Of course you can play water volleyball, beach all or even water polo.

If you are not lucky enough to own a pool, here's a list of other activities that you can play in your backyard.

Horseshoes:

If you having a large gathering then horseshoes is a good game to play. To get everyone involved, you can set up brackets with teams of two. If you lose a game you are eliminated.

Badminton: Like volleyball, badminton can be two-four players and is fun for kids and grownups. Always set your net up away from trees and any other obstructions.

Volleyball: All you need is a volleyball and a net and a few friends to make up the teams. Volleyball can be very competitive.

Frisbee: Not only can you play this sport with friends and family but, dogs love to play frisbee as well. It's a great time to take pictures of family, friends and even pets in action.

* Don't forget to take pictures and videos so that you can share the memories for years to come.

Badminton Is a Family Affair

Badminton can be played one on one or in teams. It's a fun way to relax and have competitive fun with family and friends.

Cast your vote for Fireworks

Florence, Alabama

Looking back on the years that I have lived and different experiences that I have been through, I have learned to appreciate even more, that Florence has built up and has more restaurants, stores and events. My favorite event in the city was The Fourth of July Celebration at MacFarland Park.

Fireworks are launched from a barge in the middle of The Tennessee River. Local radio stations can be tuned in to and the music will be in sync with the fireworks show. It's breathtaking and a romantic way to ring in Fourth. Other areas also blast the. Ight away with fireworks displays as well.
