Caramel Apples, Apple Cider and other Halloween Treats/Gifts

    • Caramel Apples
Caramel apples are a fun and tasty Halloween treat and tradition. They can also be used as a special Halloween gift for friends and family. Simply wrap them up and tie them off with an orange ribbon and you have a beautiful Halloween gift/treat. Here (Right) is an easy to follow homemade caramel recipe that is great for making Halloween caramel apples:
    • Apple Cider
Hot or cold apple cider is a yummy treat to have on Halloween night, maybe give out apple cider along with your Halloween candy to trick-or-treaters.
    • Halloween Cookies
Maybe instead of giving out candy you can make and give away Halloween cookies on Halloween night. This can also become a fun Halloween family tradition to make and decorate cookies. Get the family together to make sugar cookies into fun Halloween shapes like pumpkins, bats, and ghosts; bake; then decorate with colored frostings and sprinkles.
    • Halloween Cupcakes
Making and decorating Halloween cupcakes can be another fun family Halloween tradition.

Caramel Recipe

You will need:

  1. 8 Apples (Green apples work well because the sour taste goes nicely with the sweet caramel)
  2. Mini Chocolate chips, melted milk or white chocolate, crushed heath bits, and crushed oreo for the toppings
  3. 1 Cup heavy cream
  4. ¾ Cup light corn syrup
  5. ½ Cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  6. 1 Cup sugar
  7. 1 teaspoon Mexican Vanilla

Directions: Use a saucepan and a candy thermometer, cook ¾ of the cream, the corn syrup, butter, and sugar to 246 degrees F (firm ball stage). Remove from heat and mix in the remaining cream and the Mexican vanilla. Dip the apples into the caramel and let the access drip off. Once the caramel has stopped dripping you can then dip the apple into the topping(s) of your choice.

Halloween Costumes

Costume Party

Throw a Costume party as a family Halloween tradition! Invite your friends and their kids to come watch a Halloween movie and make Halloween treats with your family. Costumes are a must for a costume party, encourage everyone to participate by providing costumes for those who show up without them. You can have a costume parade and maybe even a costume competition. Have each family member or friend walk in front of everyone displaying his or her costume and introduce each one by name and by what they are dressed as. Then have your pre-appointed judges give out prizes for most scary costume, prettiest costume, etc.

Harry Potter Party

Harry Potter Party

For all you fellow nerds out there, throwing a Harry Potter party does not have to cost you an arm and a leg and it can still be a ton of fun. No, Harry Potter is not inherently a Halloween movie/activity but it is full of wizards, spells, witches, and other Halloween favorites. Here are some cheap Harry Potter party ideas:

  • Paper towel and toilet paper rolls (painted white, hung with thread, with electric tea candles inside) for the floating candles
  • White plastic sheet, rectangle sponge, and red paint; use these to paint/sponge a brick wall. Cut the sheet in half and you have a brick wall that you can hang in the doorway with a 9 ¾ sign next to it.
  • Mix corn syrup and glitter to make a potion. Place inside a plastic/glass bottle from the dollar store.
  • Use red lipstick to write a message (in blood) on a mirror. See Chamber of Secrets movie.

Masquerade Ball

Other Party Themes

Maybe you’re not a Harry Potter fan; there are a bunch of other party themes you can use for a Halloween bash. Here are some fun Halloween party themes:

  • Black and White party (This can be great for an adult Halloween party, you can do a Black and White Cocktail/Mocktail party and have everyone dress up in black and white suits and dresses.)
  • Masquerade Ball (Another good idea for adults, older teens, etc.
  • Mystery Dinner (Create your own mystery or order one of the many mystery games online. These usually come with invitations and character descriptions so each of your guests can come dressed as a different character.)
  • Pumpkin carving party
  • Haunted House party, get some families together to create a fun haunted house.

Corn Maze

Corn Mazes

If you are going with younger children corn mazes are probably going to be more enjoyable during the day. If you have older kids you may find that walking through a dark corn maze is just scary enough to be more fun than walking through the maze during the day. Some corn mazes have posts throughout the maze with clues that are a part of a giant clue game.

Pumpkin Carving

Hayrides/Pumpkin Patch/Carving

Visiting a pumpkin patch and then going home to paint and carve them is a great family activity you can do for Halloween. This is something kids of all ages can enjoy. Many pumpkin patches will also have a hayride that your family can enjoy. Look online for a pumpkin patch near you. Our pumpkin patch also supplied games and other activities like giant slides, a playground, a sandbox, and an apple cannon shooter.

Trick-or-Treating | Source

Trick-or-Treating is the classic Halloween tradition/activity for families. Dress up your family and go around your neighborhood with bags to collect your candy. Note for parents: Make sure you inspect your children’s candy before you let them eat it to make sure it has not been opened or tampered with.
