Some of my Gift Ideas for Diwali and other festivals in india

Updated on September 20, 2016

India is a country with diversified religion and culture. Hence there are several festivals throughout the year. Diwali or Deepavali is just around the corner. The shopping streets and malls are flooded with people these days. Some are shopping for themselves and some shopping gifts for their near and dear one.

It is always confusion to choose the right gift for the right person. Sometimes we end up buying the right gift for the wrong person and wrong gift for the right person.

Here I am trying to list out some gift ideas which I have gathered after talking several people over a period of almost one year. As I have started giving gifts to different people at different occasions and festivals.

I am sharing some of the gift ideas that can benefit in selecting right gift for the right person for the right festival. You can add your own ideas too here at the comment section (at the end of this hubpage).

Gifts for Elders

Elders deserve good gifts. But for Diwali, I would prefer to give idols or figurine of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha or both. This is the best gift one can give to elders at home – like grandparents! Lakshmi (Laxmi) and Ganesh are worshiped together, hence this combination gift is most popular.

Small statues of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are available in wood carving, or in metal. Some of the metal idols will cost only around 1000 Indian Rupees (about US Dollars 20).

Gifts for Younger Lot

There is no shortage of ideas for the giving gifts to younger lot. The latest trend seems to be gadgets like iPod or mp3 players. Some go for home decoration pieces.

If you are planning for a gift for your wife or mother, then, I would suggest giving an investment gift – like buying Gold or Silver. You can buy ETF Gold or some equity shares (for ETF and equity you need Demat account). You can buy some Fixed Deposit (FD) in your spouse name. Interest rates are very attractive these days, therefore it is a good idea get FD for your near or dear one. So my personal choice of a gift is an investment kind of a gift. Also, you can think buying insurance or medical insurance for the near the close relatives.

Buying gadgets as gifts should be meant for the friends or colleagues. Especially a smartphone will be the ideal gift for a colleague.

Gifts for Children

Various toys and games are suitable for the kids. But I would prefer giving games for growing up children rather than stuff toys or teddies. Also, you can buy them music or mp3 players. Also giving Paint-box, a kit for painting, colorful books and skates are some of the options which can be explored. For girl child, think of giving dollhouse or dolls and purse is preferable.

And in conclusion, if you are planning for a gift for me, then, please send me cash! :)-
