Gifts for Bakers and Cake Decorators

Updated on November 6, 2015

As a baker I am always adding tools to my cake decorating arsenal. This time of year I usually get asked for my recommendations for gifts for bakers. I prefer gifts that help me work efficiently in the kitchen and any unique cake decorating tools. Cake decorating can be very stressful! So, when I find a product to make my job easier, I am so excited! I am sure any baker/ cake decorator would love anything on this list! Here's a list of some perfect presents for the baker in your life!

My #1 Gift... A Cake Turntable

This Ateco turntable is #1 on my Christmas list this year!!! This will make my life so much easier! Icing cakes can be tedious and stressful! This revolving stand can help eliminate the stress and produce the clean lines I adore on my cakes!!! The revolving motion of this turntable allows the cake decorator to quickly and smoothly ice cakes. It brings the cake higher, which is beneficial when piping and applying intricate details. This is a must have for those who use chocolate ganache in their repertoire. The extra large base can accommodate even the largest cake tier.

Give a Craftsy Class as a Gift!

An online cake decorating course would be a great present for any baker. Craftsy classes are all the rage now in the cake decorating community. They even offer free courses for those who are a bit hesitant to spend the money. This a unique gift that will help the baker learn valuable new techniques. These classes are taught by Master Cake Decorators and are designed so you can watch them at your own pace. I absolutely love this idea!!!!

Kitchen Aid Mixer for a Baker

A Kitchen Aid mixer is a great investment! This hands-free mixer saves the cake decorator a lot of time and energy. Gone are the dreaded days of hand mixing in small batches! Kitchen Aids are also available in a bevy of colors. So, matching it to your decor is very easy! Kitchen Aid mixers have a ton of bonus attachments, like a paddle attachment, pasta roller and even a sausage maker. The stainless steel bowl is also great used as a double boiler. Which comes in handy when making different types of buttercream. This gift is a no brainer!!

Master Tip Set

I am sure most bakers have a wide array of piping tips. A variety of piping tips are necessary to create different designs. With the help of piping tips, a baker can create a grass effect, basket weave, leaves, flowers etc. This set comes with an case to keep the tips organized. This is an awesome complete set that would excite the novice to professional baker.

Pasta Machine

A pasta machine is a necessity for a cake decorator who works with fondant often. This tool is definitely worth the investment! Say no to tedious rolling and hoping your fondant is thin enough!!! This product allows you to produce fondant in different thicknesses with ease! Be sure to dust fondant with powder sugar or cornstarch prior to using. Kitchen Aid also sells a pasta roller attachment. This is a great option for those who already own a mixer!

Diy Gift Idea: Cupcake Wrappers

A variety of cupcake wrappers tucked in a box would be such a precious gift!!

Stocking Stuffers for Bakers

Silicone flower molds are one of my favorite cake decorating tools. In the hub " 5 Easy Techniques to Create Fondant Flowers" I raved about them. With minimal time and effort you can create stunning flowers and fondant decorations. Any cake decorator would love to have this stuffed into their stocking!!!

Non-stick Baking Mat

Eliminate the need for parchment paper with the use of a Non-stick baking mat or Silpat. This product is great for use with sticky substances like toffee and caramel. Cookies baked on this mat come out golden brown on the bottom and cook evenly. I also use these to roll out fondant. Fondant can be so hard to work with because of it's sticky consistency. Which can be really stressful. The benefit of this product sure outweighs the minimal cost!

Gourmet Cake Ingredients

I am always looking for ways to take my cakes to the next level, whether it is covering a cupcake topper in gold leaf or using matcha green tea powder. Do you love to see flecks in your vanilla cupcakes and icing? Vanilla bean paste is just what you need to achieve that without worrying about buying beans. I adore the intensity in flavor this paste provides!! Delish!!!!

Variety of Fondant Plungers

Fondant Plungers are one of my favorite things to invest in. They are relatively cheap and come in tons of designs. They are so easy to use that I almost feel like I am "cheating" when I use them. I own this set and it is so versatile. With it you can make fondant butterflies, daisies, hearts, leaves etc. I can't say enough about it, it's awesome!

Quick Tip!!! Check out discount stores like T.J. Maxx and Ross for great foodie gifts. Here's what you can keep your eye out for.

  • 100% pure chocolate sprinkles
  • cake stands
  • high quality cupcake wrappers (non-bleed)
  • flavored liquors
  • icing spatulas
  • gourmet candy ( This is a must have for cakes decorated with candy)

Buying gifts for bakers does not have to be difficult! Any product designed to ease the workload, create an unique design or educate would be a great gift for any baker, sugar artist or cake decorator! What is your go to gift for a baker?
