Green Gift Giving: Great Eco Friendly Christmas Gifts And Gifts For Any Occasion

Updated on March 30, 2011

Great Eco Friendly Christmas Gifts

It's that time of year again when we start to think about the perfect gifts for friends and loved ones.

Coming up with eco friendly gifts can be a challenge but thanks to many companies going to extremes to become greener, it's easier than ever to find the perfect eco friendly Christmas gifts.

Here's a few of the great eco friendly Christmas gifts out there.

For more tips on how to have a more eco friendly Christmas, check out the videos!

In the lean towards green, there are all kinds of great gadgets on the market that are not only environmentally friendly but efficient as well.

This is a great gift for someone who needs battery chargers (and let's face it - who doesn't?). These little high tech gadgets run on solar power rather than electricity.

You can find solar battery chargers for just about anything you need to plug into a standard socket like cell phone chargers, laptops, cameras, etc.

This is a great purchase as a gift or a great stocking stuffer idea!

Recycled LP Record Bowls

The ultimate in recycling means that a product once used can now be recycled and used again as something beneficial.

Recycled LP record bowls are both innovative and charmingly attractive.

Genres and styles to choose from:

  • Rock
  • Crooners
  • 70s and 80s Pop
  • Classic Country
  • Diva

Water and Solar Powered Alarm Clocks

Alarm clocks may not seem like an 'exciting' gift but if they're eco friendly, they can go from boring to unique.

Check out the water-powered alarm clock. This makes a conversation piece to be sure and a thoughtful eco friendly gift for any age.

Solar clocks come in many different price ranges and are likewise a great green gift.

You can pick a solar radio controlled atomic alarm clock or an LCD clock.

Or you can pick a solar powered clock that gives you the date, week and temperature read out and comes with a photo frame.

These make great gifts and also are great stocking stuffers for college students.  Be on time and be eco friendly at the same time!

Recycled LP Coasters

Recycled vinyl LP coasters are another great way to stay green and come up with a tremendously different gift.

These recycled LPs are 4 inches in diameter, are double-sided and laminated.  They come in sets of 6 and no two sets are ever the same.

Artists and genres are randomly selected and again, this gift makes a great conversation piece and is a super gift for the musically inclined person on your list.

All are handmade in the United States.

Recycled Rubber Accessories

If you're looking for something along the lines of accessories, recycled rubber products are a great gift item.

Some recycled rubber accessory choices:

  • Wallet case
  • Tire flap purse
  • Computer bag
  • Messenger bag
  • Passport purse
  • Coin purse

Whatever accessory product you select, you'll know that you are participating in recycling of rubber products and contributing to the support of eco friendly manufacturing.

Portable Speakers

Almost everyone could use a set of portable speakers, and these are eco friendly to boot.

Check out the options with portable speakers for the iPod, laptops, mp3 players and the iPad.

These make great gifts or with some of the less expensive sets, great stocking stuffers.

Portable speakers are just that - portable and the possibilities are endless for their use whether you buy high-end speakers or a simple set.  They make a unique gift and a practical one as well.

Jimi Wallets

A step away from the traditional wallets, the Jimi wallet is a compact wallet that you can fit into a back pocket, a front pocket and opens with the push of a thumb.

Jimi wallets are colorful.

The Jimi wallet is also water resistant.

For something a little more than the 'average' wallet, these make great stocking stuffers or a nice gift for that special someone.

USB Drink Warmers and Coolers

For the person who uses their computer a lot, a great eco friendly gift that can be plugged right into their computer is the USB drink warmer or cooler.

Just by plugging the USB device into the computer, you can warm a mug of coffee.

Or you can cool a bottle of pop or beer.

Tapping into the energy of the computer, you can give a gift that provides the user with a unique way to warm or cool beverages and keeps their beverage right at hand.

Makes a great gift or stocking stuffer.

Eco-Wise Blankets

Made by Pendleton, the eco-wise blankets are made of special fabric to keep in warmth, yet are easy to care for.

These make great gifts for any occasion and they come in many different patterns and motifs.

Eco-wise blankets also come in various sizes and styles such as throws, blankets for all bed sizes and even crib blankets.

Pendleton offers great blankets that last forever and the eco-wise wool is a natural fabric you'll have to experience to believe.

Great Eco Friendly Christmas Gifts

No matter who you have on your list, it's possible to buy eco friendly Christmas gifts and these are but a few of the many great products available out there.

Whether you're looking for stocking stuffers or a gift for those on your list, check out some of the gifts above and others like them and see if you don't agree - eco friendly doesn't have to be boring!

Whatever gifts you choose, happy shopping and happy holidays!

Too funny Micky - I'm not a huge JH fan, something my musician son and I argue about all the time....funny you should mention that! I totally get what he did for music and all that - and the wallets if there are some...ha ha - just the music is not my 'style'. Thanks for pedaling by as always!

No kidding, Om! I used to do the same thing - even years ago, we started doing that again and it was 'hip'. Things always come around don't ya think? I think that means that the older we get, the more we'll see something yet again but oh well. All that matters in my mind is saving what we can. Thanks for the read!

Cool stuff! When I was a kid, I liked using old newspaper (usually the comic section) to wrap presents for my friends, and they all thought it was kind of lame LOL....But now, if I do that again, they might think it's pretty cool and eco-friendly. I was so ahead of my time hehe :)

Thanks, Crewman - I agree....I am hoping that my mom will decide to part with some of her million year old LPs as collectors don't really pay that much for them unfortunately! They would at least go to be recycled into something 'useful' although I understand the sentimentality factor as well!

Great suggestions, and well worth considering. It's good to be generous, and better to protect our world.

Thanks for the read, Nell. I hear you - until I started looking at eco friendly products, I had no idea they used so many things. I'm seriously going to have to talk to my mom who is hanging onto her LP's like they are going to someday be worth something. I think after all this time, probably not but she could make some dough off them!

Hi, Audrey, this is a great hub, as I was reading it I was muttering to myself, 'I didn't know they had made that, and what a great idea' ha ha but that's the point, you got me interested here, nice one, I am going back up now to take another look! cheers nell

Thanks BJ for your wit as usual - no echos there - but the voices bouncing off the buttes and hills of Oregon abound!

Yes, I'm going for simpler and shorter - hopefully it is working! I tend to run off at the mouth/keyboard if I'm not thinking about it!

I think it's grand that we can recycle anything these days and you are so right about the cost of things! Maybe they'll figure out how to make a boat - or a car - out of recycled LP's!!

I would like to be eco friendly, too, Audrea, but there are absolutely no mountains in Florida to bounce an echo off of. So I ...... wait a minute, you are talking about eco not echo.

OK, I'll start over. Just wanted to remark about how well-designed this hub is - little pictures on one side and text on the other, then little pictures on the other side and text on the opposite, then .... Well, you get the idea. Really nice and easy to read.

And no really long words to decipher except perhaps environmental and sustainability. But those are par for the course.

I particularly like the recycled rubber tire passport - it would be very effective in reminding travelers they paid for their 30-day cruise trip with enough money to buy a car - a small eco-friendly car of course.

Thanks Sage for dropping by - me, too on the eco friendly. It's the only way to fly these days - and loved the recycling of products that are obsolete. Now if I could just convince my 81-year-old mother to part with all of her million LPs that she keeps because she 'wants a good price for them'.....another day and another story!

akrichner - You have some awesome suggestions here. Anything eco friendly always has my undivided attention. Therefore, I just had to check them out. Love the looks of the wallets and must check out the blankets as well.

Voted up, bookmarked. Will return soon when I have more time to check out further. Thanks for these awesome suggestions.
