Great Gift Ideas for Men

Updated on May 26, 2017
Source

Sometimes it is hard to buy gifts for men. Generally, they like different things than women do, and everyone is unique. No two men are alike, so even if you are a man, you may not be quite sure what he wants. But once you get to know him, it is usually easier to decide what he might like. With this in mind, ask yourself some questions that are helpful in determining what types of gifts he may like.

Feel free to participate in one of the two polls at the bottom of this article, and leave a comment. I enjoy receiving input. I hope this is article is useful!

Inspiration

If you need inspiration for finding a fantastic gift, browsing online is a great way to go- but since you are here, you probably already know that! I like checking out some of my favorite novelty gift sites (check out the links to a few of my favorites at the bottom of this page). I also use sites such as Shutterfly and Snapfish, which both have a wide selection of photo gifts.

Also try browsing some of the stores he likes to go to.

Another thing that comes in handy: Ask him what he wants! That may ruin the surprise factor, unless you ask way in advance. But if nothing else, it will give you more ideas.

Ask someone he is close to if they have any good ideas.

Questions to Ponder

  • Is he an outdoorsman? Does he like to grill?
  • Is he active? Is he fit? Is he into sports?
  • Is he into cars?
  • Is he into electronics or technology?
  • Is he into photography? Is he an artist?
  • Is he into music?
  • Does he like to read? Is he a writer?
  • Is he introspective and reflective? Is he reminiscent?
  • Is he intellectual?
  • Is he stylish and well-dressed?
  • Does he enjoy things that are comfortable?
  • Does he enjoy pampering himself?
  • Is he a foodie?
  • Does he have a favorite beverage? Maybe beer, wine, coffee, tea, or soda?
  • Is he more of a gadget guy, or more of an experience guy?

Thanks for checking this out again, Vicki. I still refer to this every so often. It took a lot of work, but I think it's worth it!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's nice to see you.

      Have a great day!

I always like to find homemade ideas for gifts, because I don't always have much money, and sometimes my guys don't really ask for much. I also like to be creative once in a while! I'm glad you like the ideas.

Food, wine and a kiss... I'm sure most guys would be happy with that!

Hey, it works out good for him to buy his own stuff when he wants, and for you to not have to worry about finding him exactly what he wants when it comes to that.

I'm glad you like my ideas!

I love how you included home made ideas. I am a homemaker and stay-at-home mom, so I don't have any income of my own (well besides my HubPages income which provides me enough for my own cell phone bill) so I always make him his favorite food with a bottle of wine and a kiss, but he is a happy man. Also, if he wants to buy himself something special for his computer or something else that he loves, I never complain, I just smile and nod (and give him shit later, haha). Great ideas here.

Nicole, thanks. Next year will be here before you know it! These are also good ideas for other holidays, too.

I'll be brainstorming soon for something for my Dad for Father's Day soon. I think I'm just going to make something for him, and buy him a bag of coffee. He's kind of hard to buy for, and kind of easy all at once.

I think it's fun to look for ideas for my boyfriend.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my article.

Great hub! I think making memories is a great one. My boyfriend is a simple guy who has what he needs. I usually find something, plus a card, and I usually cook for him. This will give me more ideas this time around. Great lists on here!

A very extensive list! Very useful and helpful I should think, not only for birthdays but other holidays as well. Father's Day is June 16th and I think this list you have compiled would be very useful for that day, too.

Rich, I am so glad you like my ideas. Since this is about gifts for men, I'm always glad to hear that I got it right!

The "Memorable Gifts For Women" article is the only one I have written for women so far, although I will be writing more in the future. They are fun to make, and I love thinking of gifts that people would like. That particular hub was geared for only some woman, of course. I admit, some of the items on the men one would appeal to me, too! I will take your comment into consideration, and sometime I will create one geared toward more adventurous women. I like that idea.

Good luck finding a place to put the article where your girlfriend will find it!

Thanks for reading and commenting, and have a great week!

Wow Kathryn, you know me so well! I'd take one thing from each category for the best birthday-and-Christmas-rolled-into-one ever! Now, how to plant this hub somewhere she'll notice?

To show my appreciation to my girlfriend, do you have a hub that's aimed at a more adventurous girl? I read your "Memorable Gifts For Women in Your Life" hub but I think she'd love some of the things from the list above way more. Thanks

DDE, thanks. This one was a little harder than the one for women was, but it was an interesting one to write. I always like to come up with interesting ideas of what to buy or make my boyfriend, and wanted to give others ideas. Thanks for reading and commenting, and have a beautiful day!

I hope it is nicer out there than it is here. It is 65, but it's cloudy. I can't complain, though, because rain is good for the earth and the plants, and I always appreciate a clear day so much more after having a cloudy day.

The best ideas I have read and definitely is a handy Hub, a helpful and useful hub to any one who wants to buy their man a gift

    • Kathryn Stratford profile image
      Author

Kathryn 4 years ago from Manchester, Connecticut

Joe, thanks for reading and commenting. Yes, I did put a lot of thought into this one, especially since I am not a man! The "women" version was easier. But I know that guides like these are helpful to me, and that many other people would appreciate ideas, so I put a lot of work into it.

I always ask my Mom what she and my Dad like, and get them gifts that are both practical and fun. My mother often has an idea of what half of the gifts are, and I surprise her with the rest.

I loved cooking special dinners for Andy! He is such a great guy, and he deserves everything I shower on him. I cook for him all of the time, but for his birthday I went over the top.

The pizza was very good. He likes them better than the ones we have had from restaurants lately! When he told me that, I felt really good.

Haha, Hard Frank Tots would make a wonderful gift! By the way, I am definitely not changing the name of that hub. That would defeat the whole purpose of creating it, and I agree with you that it is great for showing people how good it is to promote other writers. Initially I wasn't sure how HubPages would react to the title, but it is featured, with no red skull, so I guess it didn't offend the system!

I'm so glad you enjoyed my article.

      Have a great night!

You gave this Hub an incredible amount of thought, Kathryn. Very well done! I picked GADGETS only because I just broke the band on my watch. Our family is very practical, so we let each other know what we need for a special day. I let my wife know right away. : ) Together, she and I still like to surprise our adult kids, just as they enjoy doing the same to us. I like that you cooked special dinners for your guy. Mm, that pizza looks good! And let's not forget Hard Frank Tots! LOL! All in all, a great job, Kathryn, and I enjoyed your article very much! Aloha!

Thanks, Janet. Before you know it, his birthday will be here again! My boyfriend just had his birthday, and it was fun thinking of ideas for him. I have come up with some good ideas in the past. There are also a few things he hasn't really touched, but that's okay! There's this cool calculator that is powered with water I bought him last Christmas, and he has not opened it yet. I think I'll open it for him!

Colin, nice, it's almost your birthday! It's too bad I don't have a transporter to bring me there, so I could give you a birthday cake, and stay for a cup of coffee! I hope you have a happy one, and that you have someone to celebrate the day with, in one way or another. But if not, peace and quiet can be just as good, and you can celebrate with your kitty cats!

All is very well with me. It is in the late 60's here, and cloudy. Andy is working on his car (it is here, rather than at a garage in New Hampshire, but is giving him some trouble). If he gets the car in good enough shape, we may see his family tomorrow. We won't know until later.

The other week, when you had Summer weather, we had cooler weather! It is unusual for Canada to be warmer than parts of the US.

Well, your Leafs won the game the last day we "chatted", but I guess it has been back and forth since then.

The weather is awfully fickle, but I'm sure all will be warm and pretty soon!

Have a great weekend by your lake, and give your kitties a good petting for me.

Well hello and good afternoon my Kathyrn of Kool - this works out well because my birthday arrives on May 19th - hint , hint, lol, and when I come over to your hallowed hubspace I feel like 29, lol.

I hope sincerely that all is well with you and I see the Leafs are still hanging onto dear life in the playoffs with your big bad Bruins.

Today here by the lake , although the sun has just come out , seems more like a return to fall once again - what the heck happened to spring or summer ? Even my cats are ho-hum about it and are spending a day inside - so here we all are sending our warmest wishes to you at lake erie time 2:35pm for a happy, safe and productive weekend

MJ, there really are no rules here! And you won, too. The prize is a comment from me! Yay!

I would think you were sick if you didn't have questions, or a funny response.

A birthday is an annual event that celebrates the day you were born. On this day, a wish fairy comes down from Neverland, and grants you one wish. Hahaha.

Very true, it would probably be easy to ask right before shopping for a man. He may still be surprised! I have experienced the "tuning out" before, and I think men should develop their brain so that they can concentrate on two things at once.

I almost put a car as a gift idea, but decided that my main audience may not have the money to buy their loved one a car. But I suppose a Showroom would be a great getaway. Awesome idea, just go there for an afternoon, and drool over the cars. That wouldn't be a tease at all!

Kahlua is a rum-based liqueur from Mexico. Do you really not know what it is, or are you only joking? We have it in our coffee every once in a while :)

You've never seen an empty beer cup?! Wouldn't it be empty once you drink it?! It probably would have been more realistic to have beer in the cup!

Great, you just gave everyone an idea on lessons that would be valuable to you. I'm sure someone out there could provide you with that information!

Thanks for reading, and for amusing me with your comments. Have a fantastic weekend!

Suzie, you're welcome. Your hubs are such fantastic, unique ideas for men that I wouldn't want to exclude you from this article!

I think your man is one of those who would probably be hard to buy for, no matter how well you know him! I'm glad you have thought of creative gifts that he would like, in the past. Go-karts are fun!

Andy is into cars, and at one point I thought of getting him something tool related. But then I realized he had most everything, and when he buys some, he has specific requirements for them. I would probably get him something that would be completely useless! It always amazes me that he has so many tools, and yet he goes to Harbor Freight to buy more every once in a while. I guess it's like a woman going out to buy shoes, handbags or makeup, when they already have plenty!

I almost made this an article catered to Father's Day, but when I started creating the title, this one came up as an exclusive title, and I decided to give it a try. But it is definitely helpful to someone who is looking for gifts for any man.

Thanks, Suzie. I appreciate your support, and that you would take the time to read and comment on my hub. Have a great weekend!

Bill, thank you. I know it's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to gifts, and not every man would care for some of these suggestions, but I did my best.

You're an October baby, too? I was born right smack in the middle of the month. I think it is a spectacular month! In that case, Bev has plenty of time!

You have a great weekend, too, Bill. I'm enjoying the breeze coming in my window right now. Our air conditioner isn't in yet, and it is nearly 80 degrees in here (I suppose because we are so high up, and heat rises), so the breeze feels nice.

Completely off topic, it is amazing how loud birds are. I live in the city (although there are trees scattered throughout my neighborhood), and in the morning the birds are louder than any other outdoor sound. I love it! The tiny bit of nature keeps me sane.

      Hi Kathryn,

Thanks so much for including me in this great hub! So thoughtful of you! Well, you can imagine how much of a nightmare my man is to buy/make a gift for!! E type Jags are out of my price bracket and most things car/bike related forget it, he has it, done it or wouldn't want it!! lol

I did give him a day out (2 hrs away from Dublin) doing go-karting and entering a race etc which was great fun! He of course won the race which saw him with a bottle of bubbly the size I have never seen of before.

Great list of ideas here and my dad is another that is always hard to buy or make for so this will come in handy for sure with Father's Day looming too!

      Voted up, useful, interesting, shared!

      Hi Kathryn

WOW, great job here and loads of fabulous ideas. Now I saw the instruction at the start but by the time I got to the end I'd forgotten what the rules where. I know imagine me, forgetting the rules, breaking the rules, who sir, me sir, no way sir.

Anyway I voted in both poles so when I win two presents I'll send you one.

Now the questions, well you knew I'd have questions. I'm always the one waiting for that bit and funnily when it arrives everyone else sighs with gasps of "oh God, here we go". That one I don't understand.

Firstly, what is a birthday? Suzie has birthdays, Coco has birthdays but apparently I gave up my rite to have birthdays. I don't remember signing anything but Suzie says the forms are with her solicitor so it must be true.

This bit about asking well in advance is very kind but you ladies know that 5 minutes after you ask us men something we have forgotten and of course in extreme situations, we tune out even when you are doing the asking.

I see that you didn't mention my favorite store: The Aston Martin Showroom. I like to go there for my coffee, LOL.

Now a few of these went clean over my little head and if anyone says that's not hard to do, there will be letters.

Never heard of Kahlua? Does that come with a grass skirt?

You showed a picture of a glass that I don't recognize. No wait, now I know it. I've just never seen an empty one, LOL.

Lastly and the one I really love. I'm very interested in lessons on how to pay for my new kit car, LOL.

Great job Kathryn. Voted up and shared.

      MJ.

Well, my birthday isn't until October, so I'll have to bookmark this one for Bev and hope she pays attention to it. :) You did a very nice job with this hub. It is visually appealing and has tons of suggestions. Great job my friend.

      Have a great weekend!
