Halloween Colored Contacts

Updated on January 5, 2013

Adding Color Contacts to Your Costume

One of the hottest Halloween trends over the past few years is completing your costume with spooky colored contact lenses. Why settle for an artificial mask when you can look like a real zombie complete with life-like creepy eyes and all? Special effects colored contacts can really help take your outfit to the next level.

While they've been around for a few years now, they recently took off in popularity after many high profile Hollywood celebrities started showing up to parties and events wearing their new creepy contacts. This year, manufacturers have responded to the growing popularity by expanding their lines to include spider web contacts, bats, aliens, flames, and even zebra lenses. Some of the top sellers this year include traditional jet black contacts, yellow cat eyes, and vampire red.

I have to admit that the all black lenses create a haunting effect that is out of this world! The lenses are available as prescription and non-prescription and in most cases are priced per pair. Retail prices for some of the more advanced lens sets range from about $39 for a pair to well over $500 for the most sophisticated styles. Assuming that your lenses are well cared for, in most cases they will last you up to two years.

Where to Buy Them

They are offered by a number of online dealers and can also be found at local costume shops. In some cases, retailers do require that you get the OK from an eye doctor before they will sell you a pair. Due to their growing popularity, several manufacturers are now producing Halloween colored contacts that are designed to be non-prescription.

If you are looking to complete your costume without breaking the bank, you can usually score a better deal by looking on eBay or Amazon. Just be sure to plan ahead and give yourself a little extra time to allow for shipping.

Another advantage to buying on eBay or Amazon is that the sellers there typically have more friendly return and exchange policies than the local costume shops. Many local shops do not allow returns at all while eBay sellers are usually willing to work with their buyers. If you aren't sure what you want to do with your colored contacts yet, take a minute to watch the video below for all kinds of great ways to incorporate wild and crazy colored contacts into your costume this year.
