Kitty's favorite holiday is Halloween. She's been making her own costumes and studying Halloween as a holiday for over a decade.

The Victorian Lady Ghost Costume

Are you looking for a fun and easy-to-put-together Halloween costume idea? My newest Halloween costume idea is to dress up in a Victorian Lady Ghost Costume. This Halloween costume idea is extremely simple to put together, and you don't have to buy a costume from the store that everyone else will be wearing this Halloween.

You can be unique, creepy, and stand-out among your friends with a Victorian Lady ghost costume. Even if there is another ghost at your Halloween party, you will no doubt have a Victorian lady ghost costume all your own using the tips below.

Dresses for the Victorian Lady Ghost

The absolute first item you're going to need to find for your Victorian Lady ghost costume is the dress, of course. There is a lot of room for improvising your ghostly dress. For example: you could make your own Victorian lady ghost costume out of yards of lace and tulle similar to the gray lady Martha Stewart creation to the right. But if you're not as handy with a sewing machine and scissors, there's other options too.

I purchased my Victorian ghost lady costume right off of Etsy. I did a simple search for vintage white lace nightgowns and found the perfect lacy, off-white vintage nightgown with over-coat from the 50s for less than forty bucks! I suggest you to do a search for vintage nightgowns on Etsy or Ebay, you may be surprised with the selection and how close lacy nightgowns resemble Victorian style dresses. What about your mother or grandmother's wedding dress? Is it sitting in an attic collecting dust? Shake off the dust and wear it this Halloween (as long as your relatives don't mind of course). If you have time, you could always scour yard sales, estate sales, and thrift stores too.

If the vintage nightgown search doesn't turn out too great, you can always look for steampunk and Victorian dresses online to use as your Victorian lady ghost costume dress. Steampunk is a style that looks like industrial Victorian and is actually becoming quite popular among teens and some adults so you should have no problem finding a steampunk dress or costume online. Victorian dresses are a bit harder to come by and can cost a lot of money, but if you find one for the right price and one that you could wear again by all means get it!

If all else fails, last year's long flowy vampire gown can be re-purposed as a Victorian lady ghost costume!

Ghostly Make-up and Accessories

You can't be a Victorian lady ghost without the make up, hair, and accessories. The spook factor will go way down if you're still sporting your end-of-Summer tan with your Victorian lady ghost costume, trust me. So the first thing to get after your Victorian lady ghost dress is your make-up. White-out stage make-up works best for whiting out your entire face, neck, ears, arms...you'll pretty much want to white out whatever will be showing outside of your dress. A white face with a tan neck won't work either!

Other touches as far as ghost make-up include black and gray eyeshadow and eyeliner around the eyes, light gray on the cheekbones, and red lips for added dramatic effect (lipstick optional). And if you want to do a wound to the neck or head for even more dramatic effect, purchase some stage blood that is washable and create a sliced-neck-effect or a gun-shot wound to the head! Get creative and creepy.

Other accessories that are a necessity for this Victorian lady ghost costume include hair accessories: a white wig or white hairspray or a veil works best with this look. I'm going with a veil to turn my look into a ghost bride this year. If you're not going for a wig, you'll probably want to curl your hair into tight curls or do an up-do. Try to do your hair as close to Victorian style as possible, check out some tutorials on youtube or get inspired by pictures of Victorian hairstyles to create your own look.

Lacy stockings, gloves, and Victorian boots are also a must to pull off the perfect Victorian lady ghost costume.

Was picturing so many candidates for the presidency in Victorian style and almost fell from my chair. Weird! Still have that back street boys video on my mind. Can you believe you were a BSB fan? Thanks for the fun read. The pics are awesome. Would you try an Victorian style this year Kitty?
