Host a Party Your Friends Won't Forget
Check out these great ideas for your Halloween party!
Costume Contest is a MUST
So you want to throw the best Halloween party ever. Well, first thing is that you have got to make sure everyone comes dressed up. There's always a few people who are too cool to wear a costume. The best way to make sure everyone wears a costume is to offer prizes. Prizes don't have to be expensive either. A gift card to Starbucks, a bottle of wine or a basket of Halloween candy are affordable and make great prizes. Not only will a costume contest guarantee that everyone dresses up but your guests will be a little more creative in picking out a costume. Create ballots and have your guests pick their favorite costume. At the end of the party announce your winner!
Host a Sceance
If you spook out easily, this may not be for you. If you can handle it, then gather up your friends and get out the Ouija Board. Ouija boards not your thing? Hire a psychic for the night intead.
Have a Murder Mystery Party
Murder Mystery Parties are a lot of fun. To make this even more interesting, you can have a theme and have your guests dress in costume according to the theme. Some good ideas would be a Roaring 20's or a Renaissance Era theme. Only invite people who will participate.
Halloween Movie Marathon
Instead of a big bash, how about inviting a few frends for a Halloween Movie Marathon? Just rent some movies, get out the popcorn and serve some ghoulish cocktails for your buddies!
So you know what you want to do now but what kind of drinks are you going to serve your guests? Try out some of these yummy Halloween cocktails. They are super easy to prepare and your friends will love them!
Bloody Rum Punch: 1 750ml bottle of rum (ideally, DonQ Cristal rum), 1/2 bottle of red wine, 6 oz. lime juice and 6 oz. tripple sec. Add to large punch bowl. Add slices of two limes and two oranges.
Bloody-tini: 2 oz. vodka, 2 oz. acai juice and 1/2 oz lime juice. Add lime wedge.
Creepy Jello Shots: Use green, orange or red jello. Prepare jello according to directions and pour in shot glasses. Let cool in refrigerator. Once cool add your favorite vodka, rum or tequila and a gummy worm. Refrigerate at least two hours.
Great Pumpkin: 2 oz. vodka, 1/2 oz. Bailey's with hint of caramel and 1/2 oz pumpkin liquour. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.
Screwed-Up Scredriver: 1/4 cup of ice, 2 oz. black vodka, 1/2 cup orange juice. Garnish with black licorice.
Witch's Brew: 2 cups chilled vodka, 2 cups of boiling hot water, 1 pkg of green or red jello, 3 cups pineapple juice, 2 liter bottle of ginger ale. Pour jello mix in a large bowl and add boiling water. Stir slowly until jello is disolved. Add pineapple juice. Once cool, transfer to a punch bowl. Add ginger ale and vodka.
If you want to make this really fun, purchase a caldron at your local party and some dry ice (grocery stores usually carry dry ice). Place the dry ice in the caldron and fill with enough water to cover the dry ice. The cauldron will appear to be smoking. Add punch bowl inside the caldron.
Don't Forget Music!
These songs are a must for any successful Halloween party:
Thriller (Michael Jackson)
Season of the Witch (Donovan)
This is Halloween (Nightmare Before Christmas Soundtrack)
Werewolves of London (Warren Zevon)
Highway to Hell (AC/DC)
Sympathy for the Devil (Rolling Stones)
Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Nirvana)
Time Warp (The Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Pretty much, anything by Rob Zombie
Theme songs from The Munsters, The Twilight Zone, The Aadams family, Ghostbusters, The Exorcist and Halloween
Opting for a movie night instead? Here are some great choices. Some of these movies are classics that have also been remade. I always find the old black-and-white movies much more appealing for Halloween but the choice is yours.
Blair Witch Project
Dawn of the Dead
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
A Haunting in Connecticut
House on Haunted Hill
Interview with the Vampire
Night of the Living Dead
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Don't Feel Like a Party?
Rather go out and do something instead of hosting a party? Here's some other things you can do this Halloween.
Check Out Local Haunts
You can go on one of those ghost tours but they are expensive and are usually booked on Halloween. Why not check out the local haunts yourself? A simple google search of haunted areas in your neighborhood is all you need to do. Find a real haunted house. Every city has at least one. You can also check out haunted cemetaries, churches, museums and finish off at a haunted restaraunt or bar.
Enter a Costume Contest
Most clubs and bars have costume contests on Halloween and they give out some pretty great prizes too.
Haunted House Crawl
Grab a few friends and visit a bunch of haunted houses. There are a lot of real good ones out there that will spook you but the cheesy ones are a riot.
