"Happy Birthday In Heaven"

Updated on May 10, 2012

This is a song that I wrote yesterday, May 3rd, 2012. This song is dedicated to the late Charles McNeely. It was written for my wife, Ashlie (McNeely) Hale. Ashlie lost her dad two months ago after a short fight with cancer. Instead of mourning our loss, we celebrated his life yesterday. Charles is now 52 and celebrating his first birthday in Heaven. We love you and always will dad. This song is for you as we will always keep your memory alive. Ashlie and Ricky

Death is never easy. Death has the power to affect every person that felt influence in one's life. It can set off a chain of events. Until it happens, we truly don't have any idea of how we will act. We can prepare the best that we can, but even still, we don't know exactly how we will act. Those who have lost loved ones from cancer or illness usually see their loved one suffer for weeks, months, or even years. We tend to remember then in sickness instead of health. This can leave us with haunting memories. Remember the good times and remember that smile on their face. Remember them for who they were, not for their last days. Remember that special moment you had with them and take a mental picture. I want you to remember me this way. Happy Birthday Charles "Pig" McNeely! We will ALWAYS love you.

Today you would be fifty-two

So happy birthday dad

Today I celebrate your life

All the good times we had

You left us way too early

So much left unsaid

But no more pain will you feel

So go and rest your head

It feels like forever

Forever and a day

But I know your up in Heaven

Watching when I pray

I'd give anything

To hear your voice

I'd take it all back

If I had a choice

Give anything

To see your smile

To tell you what you meant to me

It was all worthwhile

To tell you I love you

Happy Birthday I would sing

Just one more moment, with you

I'd give anything

I'm going to play your song

I'll turn it up high

I refuse to remember the pain

I want to remember your smile

Cause your my one and only daddy

And I'm your baby girl

I know you felt the same

You were and still are my world

I'd give anything

To hear your voice

I'd take it all back

If I had a choice

Give anything

To see your smile

To tell you what you meant to me

It was all worthwhile

To tell you I love you

Happy Birthday I would sing

Just one more moment, with you

I'd give anything

I'll keep that smile of yours

Locked in my soul

I love you dear daddy

Just in case you didn't know

I'd give anything

To see you again

To hold you one more time

I miss my best friend

In case you didn't hear me

You're my everything

For you my dearest daddy

I'd give anything

It's very sad and difficult for a person to lose a parent. This is a beautiful song, full of positive energy, and I'm sure Ashlie's dad felt it in Heaven.

This has to be the most beautiful gift you could have given your dear wife Ashlie. Amazing talent but it always shines just a bit brighter when you are writing for someone's heart.

Please relay to Ashlie - My prayer for her is to reach a point, if she hasn't aleady, where she will know that the Angels sing a bit louder and Heaven glows a bit brighter now that Charles McNeely is in their midst.

      Bless you both

Oceansider, thank you for your time and comment. I am sorry for your loss. I know it is never easy, but you are correct, we all will see each other again. And yes, he no longer suffers. Thanks for that, your words are greatly appreciated.

Ricky, What a lovely, touching song...Happy Birthday in Heaven is wonderful. It's so sweet that you wrote this song for your wife, about her dad. I'm sorry for Ashlie's loss, it sounds like she was so close to her dad. I have also lost a parent, my mom...she passed away two and a half years ago. I am just glad she's at peace now with God and not suffering any more (she had heart disease).I used to tell her everything. But I do know I'll see her again when I go home to heaven. ....I've voted this up & beautiful! I hope to read more hubs of your's too.

Denise, thank you so much for your kind words. Oh my dear. Sorry about your husband. I truly hate to hear that. It really is tough. Talking to those who can relate really helps a lot. Thank you very much my dear.

Up/Beautiful and Awesome. I'm so sorry for your loss. You are right that death is 'life' changing for those that go on in this life. Losing my husband to an unexpected diagnosis of cancer after only 12 weeks...I can relate. And, he was also in his early 50's-it just doesn't make sense and seems surreal at times.

What a lovely tribute to his memory. God Bless...

LW Ricky not only is this a beautiful tribute but what a wonderful gift to give to your wife! It's so hard to live on at times without their physical presence everyday in our life. But there is the knowledge that they are no longer in pain and that they are free and happy - and more than this, we will meet up with them again.

Your beautiful song will have brought a smile of joy not only to your Wife, but her Dad as well!

      Voted up everything except funny!!

This is one of the truly greatest gifts a husband can give his wife. Surely her daddy is smiling now. And Ricky, you've said here what a lot of us would like to say about those that have passed on.

This is so beautiful it made me cry. I do believe in rejoicing for a loved one who has received salvation through Christ. When they die, they have so much more than we do. My best friend and I have told family we want Oh Happy Day sung at our funerals. Celebrating a departed one's heavenly homecoming birthday is such a great idea. Your heart is so loving and compassionate. Bless you Ricky!

What beautiful sentiments. You are so right, when our loved ones have cancer or other long illnesses there is so much time of suffering we almost forget the good times and the times they were healthy.

I think my favorite line is "I'll keep that smile of yours Locked in my soul" Continue to celebrate his life!

Really beautiful. Voted up and beautiful.
