Dad will appreciate the extra special touch that a greeting card adds to any Father's Day celebration. Put it on a tray when you give him breakfast in bed or surprise him by leaving it for him to find when he gets home from work. Whether dads live with you or they live far away, they will still appreciate the gesture of a card. The majority of these card ideas are kid friendly projects.

I was going to include a separate printables section, but I found so many great Father's Day card printables that I added them to the end of each section. Click on the source link under each printable picture to access the freebie. I broke down the ideas that I found into the following sections:

  • Simple Happy Father's Day Greetings
  • Fun Father's Day Messages and Sayings
  • Classic Father's Day Messages
  • Shirt and Tie, T-Shirt, and Cuff Links Cards
  • Dad-Specific Interests

Please note that unless it says otherwise, all ideas, tutorials, templates, and printables are for personal use only. If you are interested in selling your creations, please contact the artists directly. Thank you and happy creating!

There is nothing wrong with keeping your Father's Day card message simple with a "Happy Father's Day" greeting on the front. Customize the card for the early summer season or make it in your dad's favorite colors. Adding a little embellishment detail such as buttons or a ribbon will give your card subtle dimension.

Funny cards are always some of my favorites. Click on the source links to the right to check out the tutorials. The funny Father's Day messages and sayings that I found include:

  • Real men have kids.
  • You're the best "pop" ever with illustrations of "pop" foods (soda pop, popcorn, etc.). The printable for this idea is awesome.
  • Dad, you're the bomb!
  • When it comes to being a great day, you "nailed" it.
  • I love you more than you love donuts.
  • Any message with duct tape. It will be funnier with duct tape.

If you want to go beyond the simple "Happy Father's Day" message but don't necessarily want something overly silly, consider one of the classic Father's Day messages here. Some of the most popular options include:

  • You're the best!/You're the best dad that I know./Best dad ever.
  • You're my/our hero.
  • You're an amazing dad.
  • I love my dad.
  • "I love you to pieces." for a puzzle card.
  • A top 3 (or top 5, etc.) list of reasons why you love Dad.

I found more shirt and tie card ideas than just about anything else for Father's Day cards. There are a wide variety of tutorials and printables. If your dad is more of a casual guy and loves his t-shirts, check out the t-shirt card idea instead. Alternatively, if your dad would appreciate a cuff link card, head over to that post.

Consider some of your dad's favorite interests and hobbies and think about how you could incorporate them into your card. There are a number of classic options, such as cars, golf, fishing, and video games, as well as more unique ideas, such as the beach and Bingo.

Thanks ktrapp and Kelly! I haven't seen anyone make the candy card for Father's Day before, but I've seen teachers make them for retirement parties. It's really cute!

What creative ideas for father's day cards. But I have to say, I really like the candy bar card, especially with an air nerd for each signature.
