He's My Brother

Updated on July 16, 2013

Happy Birthday you old coot

He’s My Brother

It was nice growing up with someone like you - someone to lean on, someone to count on... someone to tell on!

Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero.
-- Marc Brown

There is a destiny that makes us brothers, no one goes his way alone; all that we send into the lives of others, comes back into our own.
-- Edwin Markham

Everybody talks about ‘love your kids, love your wife, and love your neighbor’. Oh, the clichés! Today is my brother’s birthday. He is an officially an old fart!

Why is it that we don’t tell each other “I love you” as adult men? Why do we forget that as brothers, we are just kids with gray hair, pot bellies, high blood pressure and progeny who are growing faster than pot plants in a Mexican hot house?

I lost jobs, kids and whatever else. I’m still standing because I have a brother who says- “look in the mirror and see the best damn_____ in the world. Just Believe it.”

I’m the older brother. He’s the wiser brother. I play the music. He makes the music. I sing. He exalts.

I am comfortable writing this stuff in cyberspace, because I am comfortable that he hears me each time we talk. We talk a lot. Thank God for unlimited minutes. We live 1500 miles from each other, we are seconds away.

So- not to be sappy- oh, hell- let’s be Sappy- Brother- I love you!

Thanks for being my brother. You are my hero.

It's awesome that you and your brother have such a great relationship and complement each other in different ways. Happy birthday to him, and kudos to you for writing such a nice tribute!

I have three sisters. Always wished for a brother. When my son was born I wish him a brother. Nope, he got a sister. Now my son has three sons. Brother what a hand full! No pun intended. ;)

as the baby sister of these two - all I can say is that our Mom is looking down from heaven and smiling because her kids are together. I NEVER end a call to them without saying "I love you". My brothers are both very good men who I am proud to say are my "big brothers"

This hub was written very well and is full of love for your brother. It is too bad you live so far apart. In this world, families quarrel and many hold jealousy inside. It is nice to hear that you have found a love in your family that surpasses all others. I have one brother who is deceased. I wish I had him here on this earth. He had a hard life through no fault of his own. I read your profile, and was impressed. Will read more of your hubs. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I get what you say about the family distance. I have experienced that in other ways as well. My mom is gone to the happy land now, and I think of her almost daily, even three years hence. Again, thank you.
