Having Fun While Decorating

Christmas Tree

No one really needs instructions when it comes to decorating for the holidays. Sometimes though, you might need some fresh new ideas for those same old decorations that you have been using over and over for the past several years. You might need ideas for new decorations or, if you are pressed for time, you might choose to buy them. Involve everyone in the home. Everyone can help make Christmas a special time of year so, make sure that no one feels left out.

Christmas time is coming!! While it happens at the same time each year, Christmas just has that way of sneaking up on us. When you start decorating a tree, it will make the tree easier to decorate if you add the ornaments after you add the lights on the tree.

If you are getting ready to decorate the tree and decorating for the holidays means it is time to invite the family! If you are using a real tree, be sure to keep it watered as directed. After you have finished decorating the tree, hang an angel or a star on the top of your tree to make your tree complete. Make sure and use lots of lights so everyone can see it from the street, or as they pass by your home. Playing Christmas songs throughout the house is a great way to get in the "Christmas mood".

Holiday Interior Decorating

If you want to just go all out, when you are decorating on the inside of your home for the holidays, it is important to replace the regular, everyday decorations, with Christmas decorations. By this, an example would be, to remove your kitchen clock and replace it with a Christmas clock that plays songs. Decorating the inside of the home does not have to be just limited to trees and hanging items. Also, bake cookies shaped like reindeer or Christmas trees. Make a holiday punch bowl and turn on Christmas music. Simmering apple cider is also nice for this time of the year.

Do not forget to spread the decorating around in several rooms because if you confine it to one area then it will get junky and possibly tacky as well. One thing that you could do, would be to decorate different bedrooms with different themes. For example, one room that I would decorate would be in angel theme, another room would be different presents.

Setting An Elegant Table

As a general rule, I try to keep a theme throughout the house. A decorating tidbit to file in the back of your head is to do a different theme in each room. That is a lot of fun too!

Use Christmas colored place mats or use a Christmas themed table runner, for the dinning room. A neat idea I have seen if you decorating with a table runner is to take large Christmas ornaments and arrange them on your runner all across the table. Have salt and pepper shakers and other condiments dressed in Christmas attire or get spices that already have holiday colors.

Then you will want to think about a beautiful center piece to make that table a hit. You can use any of the following, pine braches, arranged with pine cones and candles. Candles can be strategically placed in the center of the table to create beautiful light.

Place your Christmas dishes out on the table. Set the table with Christmas glasses and your nice set of silverware. I like to make it look like I am ready to serve a fancy family meal. Put your plate down then place the saucer on top of the plate. Next, place the bowl on the saucer.

Christmas napkins can be purchased to match the place mats and finished off with a Christmas themed napkin ring. It really helps the table look nice for friends and family alike. Of course, it's good to have paper towels in case you encounter any messes or spills while dining at the dinner table.

A nice touch to really set your table apart is to fold the napkins into a design. Patterns for napkin folding can be found easily on the internet. Always have snacks or finger foods for the guests to tide them over till the main course is served.

When having those special meals with family or friends at the holidays a nicely set table just makes everyone feel special and welcome and makes them look forward to a nice meal and time with friends. Please share any ideas you have about setting an elegant holiday table or decorating for the holidays in general.

One very important thing that we all will want to remember. Christmas only comes once a year. Be thoughtful and make those moments count with your family. You don't know when those moments might be your last. Have a Merry Christmas!
