House Warming: What is the ideal gift?

Select a housewarming gift that doesn't cost too much money and will make a house more like a home, such as a plant or scented candle. Consider bringing homemade cookies or a bottle wine to a house. There is an art in giving the gift also. Here are some ideas to select good presents. Many newly built houses are in a stage that they have to build an extra room to store the presents they received.

1. Most of the presents do not match the design or the theme of the newly built house.
2. When we get the more than one of the same type of gift, it becomes useless.

In foreign countries between friends & acquaintances there is a provision of ‘gift registry’. People will write the list of things they need. Those who are interested can gift those items. This method is 100% useful. But there is no thrill in receiving the gift. Not only that, there are many shops in the metro cities where we can give the gifts we do not require & buy something else we need from there. We can start thinking about those.

How To Select Housewarming Gifts - Be Unique with Your Gift Ideas

Gift should also be liked by the person receiving the gift.

1.Personal likes can be taken into consideration

If it is your friend or relative, try to choose a gift according to their taste. For e.g. a house wife who likes gardening might appreciate a pot & some plant as a gift. For those who like natural products we can give terracotta products or something similar. For those who are religious we can present statues, a beautiful rosary or items on which religious symbols like Om, swastika etc. are carved.

2.The price does not matter

The most important factors are the tastes & needs for whom we are buying the gift & your attitude. The price for the things made by yourself (a painting drawn & framed by you, embroidery, cushion covers, homemade wines) will be more dear than things bought from a shop. Such a gift will showcase your true care & love.

3.Avoid gifts that promote bad habits

If the house owner is a chain smoker, avoid gifts like ashtrays.

4.We can also select gifts which are of interest & can be used later.

Those who like travelling a lot can be given brochures or books telling about new places which can be useful later. Do not think that such gifts are not apt for house warming. Since such variety gifts will be less, your gift will surely be remembered by them.

5.Items which are changed regularly are good as gifts.

Cushion covers, bed sheets /bed spreads etc. are changed regularly. Therefore a set of these will be useful for them.

6.Food items will increase the sweetness.

Beautifully packed chocolates, cookies, cake, dried fruits etc will be liked by anyone.

7.Call & enquire .

If they are close acquaintances, you can find out their requirement & that which comes under you budget which you can gift them. But the ‘surprise’ of the gift will be lost here.

8.Gift cheques.

Many shops have the provision for gift cheques. The house owner can later buy the things they require from that shop for that price.

9.Those occasions where they specifically mention about not taking gifts, then do not take gifts.

10.Do not ‘recycle’ a gift.

Do not give a gift which someone else has presented to you before.

11.Gift can be given later

After observing the interiors on the day of house warming, you can buy an appropriate gift & give within two weeks.

12.Collect some rare gifts.

When you are traveling we can collect beautiful & affordable rare items & keep with us. This is better than busily hunting for a gift if we get invited for a house warming.
