Decorate Your Home for Hanukkah

It nearly seems unfair, that Christmas has so many decorations, and so many options to decorate the house with light, trees and presents, and Hanukkah which comes very closely to Christmas has so little options.

If we want our children to love Hanukkah just as much as they like Christmas, we might want to invest some thoughts in the Hanukkah decorations. Here you will see some ideas to how to decorate for Hanukkah. The decorations can be simple yet to catch the yes, and the hearts of those who come to your home.

There are three main themes which you can use, to decorate your home for Hanukkah.

  1. The Menorah - The Jewish 9 candle holder.
  2. The Dreidel - The spinning children's game
  3. The Candles - Which are used to light up the Menorah

Here are some ideas you can do by your own to decorate your home.

Cut-Outs- get some colorful card-boards and cut out a few of these themes. Make large candles, large Menorah (make sure the middle candle is slightly higher than the rest). Cutting shapes out of card-boards is easy, you can do it with your children, and decorate the walls and windows.

Negative Cutouts- This is a little more complicated, but is much more impressive! You need to buy black card boards and cover all your windows which are facing the street. Than you cut out from the black card-boards negative shapes of Menorah, candles, dreidels.. Now when you light up your light, the only light which will be seen from outside, is the shapes of Hanukkah you cut away.

3D Dreidels- You need some thick card-boards from which you cut 4 faces of a dreidel. Then you stick the 4 dreidels to one another until they look like a 3D dreidel which can be tied up from the ceiling. The 3D dreidels can be small and decorative or they can be large enough to hold some gifts and chocolate coins.. Then they are lowered for the children to find the Hanukkah gifts inside.

Chanukah Light String- This is a small but jolly happy decoration. A string of lights with Chanukah themes like the Menora and Dreidels and Star of David all softly lit with fiber optic lights.

The other advantage of this decoration is that it can be added to the decorated Christmas tree.
