Scary Halloween Scavenger Hunt (not just for for Kids) - Plan a Hauntingly Good Game!

Updated on August 18, 2014

Are you having a Halloween Party? Need some Ideas?

There is probably nothing worse that can happen than people who are so bored that they would rather go somewhere else. And if you have organized a party for kids, this can be more of a challenge, especially because kids have a shorter attention span, and to keep them interested, you have to find good opportunities for them to move around and have a great time. The good thing is that this is so possible to do, and one of the best ways to accomplish this is have a fun Halloween scavenger hunt that will keep the kids busy and interested.

If not done the right way, kids will still find the Halloween scavenger hunt a bore, so you have to make sure that you plan it well. The following are some tips that you might find helpful in planning Halloween scavenger hunts so that they can be enjoyable and fun.

Never too old for Halloween!

Think like a kid

Sometimes, the biggest reason why there are things that we think kids will like but they don’t is that we are not meeting their expectations. This is because we think like adults and expect what adults will like and will find to be fun to be fun for children. This does not mean that you have to go all the way to acting like a kid, but that you need to try to understand them, where they are at in life and to find out what will interest them. If you are a mom or dad at home, this can be a lot easier for you to do. This way, you will effectively find out what Halloween scavenger hunt ideas they are going to really have fun with.

Be as creative as you can be

It is quite difficult to get the attention of children, much more have them stay interested in something. And so, you can bring out your creativity and let it work for you to plan out something that the kids will be excited to do and keep doing until the time that it is finally over. If you are planning a Halloween scavenger hunt, you have to make sure that the necessary things such as the Halloween scavenger hunt riddles, or Halloween scavenger hunt clues, are properly prepared and so interesting to them that they will keep focused.

What you have to bear in mind is that you have to create, or buy, riddles and clues that they are able to solve, to avoid anyone from being frustrated or finding them too difficult. Also, create the Halloween scavenger hunt clues in such a way that the appearance itself will be interesting to them. To do this, you need to come up with some great and unique gimmicks for every time that a team finds a clue. These can be from the item/material that the clue is on, to a disgusting challenge that they must pass to get the clue. By this, I mean think 'evil', like putting their hands into a bowl of worms, getting past spiders, or even cockroaches ... it sounds like an evil island challenge, but to the kids it will be a blast and also create some amazing photos!! Be sure to make every station truly captivating, so as to hold their interests and make them feel as if they are on a very important quest and exciting venture.

Add a Fright to the Night!

Of course, as it is Halloween, a few frights might not be out of the question, depending on the age of the children. Hidden Walkie Talkies are great for creating the atmosphere with ghooooostly voices and blood curdling screams in the darkness! This, combined with a few hidden people, or traps along the way, will surely have their little hearts racing.

This may all sound really hard to do, but actually, the key to accomplishing a fun Halloween scavenger hunt is simply knowing what the kids want so that you can plan out something that will perfectly suit them.

Halloween is the most fun holiday as it is not so serious as some others and this year there are lots of new party things and books and everything. Don't forget some black licorice which is actually good for you!

Great idea for a spooky kind of Halloween night using a scavenger hunt as a part of the mix...and timely also since that night is fast approaching. If lots of photos and possibly videos are taken, it will continue to be fun for many years to come. Up votes and sharing.

Love these ideas, Brett, Hallowe'en's a brilliant night to really go to town with all the weird and wacky things I can think of for my niece and nephews, so I'll be cramming as much in as I can to give them a spooky night to remember, and after reading this, I'll be including a scavenger hunt this year :)

Brett, you're about 4 months ahead of schedule. Of course, it is never to early to plan for anything. Great idea on spicing up Halloween--an annual event that is mostly known by many kids as a candy run.
