Green Eggs and Ham Birthday Party Ideas

Updated on July 11, 2013

Whether you are throwing a birthday party for a child or an adult, a themed birthday party is always an enjoyable and fun occasion for everybody involved and invited!

Throwing a themed party takes a large amount of effort, time, and planning but seeing the enjoyment on the faces of all of your guest (and person(s) of honor) will be worth all of the energy and money spent.

A "Green Eggs and Ham" DIY Party

Green Eggs and Ham is a classic childhood book by Dr. Seuss and makes for a fun theme for any birthday party.

Adults and children alike would love and enjoy this theme.

Planning, decorating, and throwing a party with this theme is thoroughly enjoyable!

Party Décor.

After creating a guest list and sending invitations, the first step in throwing a themed party is purchasing the décor to bring your theme of "Green Eggs and Ham" to life!

Party décor does not have to be expensive to have a personal and themed touch.

Most dollar stores, Wal-mart, and other discounted stores do have most all party décor needed in any color.

Party Décor List.

  • Plates
  • Utensils
  • Napkins
  • Cups
  • Party platers
  • Serving utensils
  • Table covers
  • Balloons
  • Streamers
  • Candle(s) for the birthday cake

And anything else you may need for your particular themed party.

*All décor should match the theme of the party (green and orange were the color scheme of a "Green Eggs and Ham" birthday party).

DIY Decor.

There are some decorations that people want to have at parties such as cupcake toppers, banners, etc that people desire to have at their themed party, but do not have the expenses to buy highly priced decorations. That is when you must get creative.

Do it yourself decorations are a fun way to personalize a party (while keeping the cost low).

DIY Cucake Toppers.

Supplies:

  • Colored Construction paper
  • Marker
  • Glue stick and/or tape
  • Toothpicks
  • A compass (or circular stensil)

To make your own cupcake toppers cut out several large circles from construction paper (green), and cut out several smaller circles out of a different color construction paper (orange).

Tape a toothpick to the larger circle, then paste the smaller circle on top of the toothpick (hiding the toothpick between the pieces of circular construction paper).

Once the cupcake topper is glued together, you are then able to decorate the topper how you see fit.

DIY Banners and Signs.

Supplies:

  • Construction paper
  • Makers
  • Glue
  • Tape

Every party needs banners, decorations, and signs.

Making these things at home is a fun, creative and personal way to decorate a fun and themed birthday party.

Whether you are having your party in your own home or at a separate venue, it is important that you have a sign (or balloons) outside that clearly mark where the party is located.

If the room (or venue itself) is difficult to find, you may want to think about having several signs directing your guests to the party (to ensure no one gets lost).

It is always nice to have many decorations and signs inside where the party is located. Decorations add to the décor and aesthetics of a party, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere for all who are in attendance.

Gift Bags for the Guests

Supplies:

  • Goody bags
  • Goodies

For the tags:

  • Construction paper
  • Glue
  • Marker

Gift bags are an inexpensive and cute gesture to hand out to the guests of the party.

For a child's birthday party gift bags should be handed out to all children (at least).
The goodies in the back do not always have to be themed (the gift should be something the guests will enjoy and use) but the bag and gift tag should match the theme.

Setting up the Party

The layout of the party is important for the atmosphere.

All of the guests should feel at ease and comfortable so they are better able to enjoy the party that you have spent so much time and effort in planning and setting up.

The tables should be set up in a way that invites people to sit down.

The tables should also be placed in a way that even when people are sitting, they are still able to interact with others (guests should not feel isolated from the rest of the party).

The table layout should be one where there is plenty of space for people to move around and enjoy other activities other than eating (maybe play games, dance, or just walk around).

All tables should be covered with a cover or cloth, this ensures efficient and quick cleanup.

Center pieces are optional (as everyones budget differs when hosting a party) but if you do choose to have center pieces, make sure they are ones that tie into the theme and invite people to sit and enjoy the food and the party.

Gift Opening Space

When attending a birthday party it is proper edicate that one bring a gift for the person of honor (even though gifts are not always necessary).

So it is important for a host to have a designated are (whether it be a table or a space) for guest to place cards and gifts.

Having a designated area to unwrap presents also helps keep the wrapping paper mess in one specific place if you choose to unwrap gifts in front of guests.

Buffet Style.

A buffet style brunch for the Green Eggs and Ham theme is more practical and efficient when throwing the party.

As people come in they can fill a plate and choose their own seat.

A buffet style brunch will allow people to only take what they know they will eat, that way you can ensure that your guests will be full and happy with the food that is served.

Buffet style eliminates the waste of food, and all leftovers can be wrapped and taken home (either by the host and/or the guests).

The Menu

The Menu for a "Green Eggs and Ham" birthday party:

  • Dyed Hard-Boiled Eggs
  • Avocado Deviled Eggs
  • Ham
  • Bacon Ribbons
  • Cupcakes
  • Pretzel Treats
  • Guacamole
  • Chips
  • Orange Juice
  • Seltzer Water

The Food.

A party is not a party without food.

Food is an essential part of hosting a party. It is important to make your guests feel comfortable and are happy and food and treats never fail in making people excited and uplifted.

It is important that when choosing foods for the party, that the host cook and/or brings food that most people would enjoy.

It is hard to make everybody happy, so when supplying food, the host must try to appease the majority of the guests.

It is also important for the host to make sure the food is theme orientated.

For a Green Eggs and Ham party, the host should serve "green eggs and ham"

The styles and variations of food combinations can vary depending on personal preference.

The Party!

Once the guests are invited, once the décor is purchased and/or made, and once the food is prepared and cooked (or ordered), the party can finally begin!

Themed parties take so much time and dedication to successfully pull off, so after all of your hard work it is important to take time to enjoy what you have created.

Make sure your guests feel welcome by greeting each one as they enter your party. Direct them to the gift area (if they have a present) and make sure they know where the food is.

Make sure to thank all of your guests for coming, and even offer for them to take extra food and/or cupcakes and treats.
