Writing Letters to Santa

Several years ago, an article in our local paper interviewed a few of the "Postal Elves" who volunteer to answer children's letters to Santa Clause. According to the Canada Post website, more than 11,000 current and retired employees of Canada Post, answer the 1,000,000 letters mailed to the North Pole each year and personalize every one. Letters may be written in French or English.

I thought the idea was marvelous, and couldn't wait to tell my children that I now had Santa's address!

Mail Them Early!

Every letter that includes a return address will be answered by one of the Postal Elves, but make sure that they are mailed early enough to get a response before Christmas Eve. The Canada Post website suggests teachers wishing to make this a class project have the letters posted by December 3. The site also requests that treats and cookies be left out in the usual fashion on Christmas Eve, and not mailed with the letter!

This year Lucy, age 6, wants "anything Barbie", while my son would be thrilled with some new Nintendo 3DS games or a Sidney Crosby hockey stick.
