Updated on March 14, 2017

A little celebration

Every year on the 17th of March people celebrate St. Patrick's Day all over the world. St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. However the celebrations are not limited to the Irish. Indeed it's a day when everyone and anyone can be Irish for the day and join in the fun.

The emerald Isle recognizes this special day as a holy day. Colourful parades fill the streets throughout the land. Dublin, the capital city puts on a remarkable show. It's a delightful fun day.

Should the desire to visit Ireland and embrace the origins of this great day arise, you may sample some of the drinks listed: if not, at least you have the recipes.

Sláinte (gaelic for cheers).

Meth od:

Pour the Baileys Irish cream into a shot glass; slowly float the whiskey over the baileys. Drop the shot glass into the pint glass of Guinness. Drink straight away; this drink has a tendency to curdle.

Not for the faint hearted!

An Irish proverb

Go Green

Add a little green food colouring to your favorite tipple. Opt for a green larger; a glass of green sparkly or a favorite cocktail.

Sip on a traditional Irish tipple:

  • Guinness stout
  • Murphy's stout
  • Beamish stout
  • Bulmer's cider
  • Smithwick's ale
  • Harp larger
  • Irish whiskey (Jameson's, Tullamore Dew, Power's, Bushmills to name a few)
  • Hennessy brandy
  • Irish cream liquor
  • Irish coffee
  • Mead (made from honey)
  • Poteen (made from potatoes)

Happy St Patrick's Day

It may or may not be St Patrick's Day when you make these cocktails; either way as the Irish say:

''Sláinte and may you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live.''
