Labor Day - Rest from Work

Updated on August 28, 2008

Labor Day held the first Monday in September in the United States was started in 1882. It was started by New York City's Central Labor Union (thank you, CLU!). Labor Day didn't become a federal holiday until 1894. It was started to give U.S. workers a day off from working.

I hope all of you get to take the day off, because that's what it's for. Are you driving and going away for the weekend or will you spend the time store hopping as you get your children ready for school (for those with kids).

If you do have work on Labor Day -- I can see restaurant workers and radio station DJs rolling out of bed to serve others -- what are some of the jobs that you fill? Is this the first year you had to work on Labor Day?

Whatever you do - ENJOY! I'm looking forward to the day off! This has been a crazy busy year where I work. Just one day off is a HUGE TREAT!
