Need a last minute gift for the reader or book lover on your list?

In only a few weeks it will be Christmas. If you are very organized you have bought the perfect gifts, have them wrapped and ready to be opened to squeals of delight on Christmas morning.

However, if you are like most people you have at most one or two gifts bought, and maybe haven't even begun to shop. What can you get at the last minute for the book lover on your list?

Luckily, people who love to read are pretty easy to get gifts for. Following are some suggestions. Amazon will guarantee Christmas delivery if you use one day shipping as late as December 23 at 3:00 p.m. The Amazon deadlines are:

  • Free Supersaver Shipping December 17
  • Standard Shipping December 18
  • Two Day Shipping December 22

Amazon will even wrap the gift and enclose a gift card! So, what are you waiting for?

Amazon Kindle

If you have a reader that is also a tree-hugger then the Amazon Kindle is the perfect gift. It is a wireless gadget that holds 200 book titles that can be downloaded from Amazon. Newspapers, magazines, and many, many books can be purchased for the Kindle.

Once a book is bought it is delivered wirelessly to the Kindle in a matter of seconds. There is no need to hook it up to the computer. The Kindle uses the same technology as your cell phone (high speed data network) so there is no need to find a hotspot.

One of the nicest things about Kindle is that it is paperless and has a very low impact on the environment.

*Amazon has just sold out of Kindles and cannot guarantee Chistmas delivery however this is such an amazing gift the recipient may very well be happy with a note letting them know that an Amazon Kindle is in their future.

A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote

A Christmas Memory is a classic book, written for ages 4 through 8 but easily enjoyed by all ages. It is the story of one of the Christmases of his childhood in the 1930s in rural Alabama.

The young Truman lived with a distant relative, who later became famous as the Fruitcake Lady on the Tonight Show. This book is full of the warmth and simplicity of the early twentieth century, told in Capote's fascinating style. Readers will seek these pages again and again.

Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R.Tolkien

Letters from Father Christmas is a collection of letters that Tolkien "helped" Father Christmas write these letters to his children over a twenty year period. The collection contains not only Tolkiens enchanting narrations of the going's on at the North Pole but also drawings and sketches of the characters and different places that are discussed. In Tolkien's narrative style Father Christmas relates the joys and trials of dealing with goblin attacks, the antics of his assistant polar bear, and other fanciful characters that are brought to life by his amazing talents.

Book Buddy

This lap desk has a pillow on one side and the ties hold your book in any postition that you like.  The acrylic side comfortably holds your laptop or allows you to write letters.

Best of all, it is beautiful.  It comes in the black and gray but also several other color combinations.

Embossed Leather Journal

For many readers the only thing better than reading a book is writing one.  This leather journal is embossed with gold roses and is made of imported Italian leather.

The best thing about it is that the pages are refillable.  When one journal is filled the pages can be filed and a new journal started.  This is a sturdy and beautiful gift that will last for a vey long time.

Craftsman Bookcase

Contrary to popular belief the best place to keep books is not stacked on the floor by the bed. Great books deserve great bookcases like these made in the craftsman style.Arts and Crafts or Craftsman style was an architectural style made popular in the early twentieth century. The simple lines are beautiful and look great with contemporary, country, or vintage style rooms.
