How to Enjoy Valentine's Day in a Long Distance Relationship
Long Distance Relationships Shouldn't be Neglected for Valentine's Day
It's never easy to be separated from the person you love. In fact, it may be even more difficult than not having anybody during this romantic holiday. Knowing that your partner is somewhere else in the world and you won't be together makes it difficult to anticipate this holiday rather than dreading it. Hopefully the following tips will give you some ideas to help you to look forward to February 14th instead of wishing it would never come.
The most important thing is to not ignore Valentine's Day as though it isn't happening. You have a tremendous opportunity to show your partner how much you love him: Take that opportunity!
Whether your partner is away in the military, off on business, or in college (among other things), making him feel special this Valentine's Day should be on your list of things to do this year.
Write Love Letters to Your Long-Distance Valentine
While most people have lost the art of hand-writing letters to the people they love, this is an important skill when in a long-distance relationship. Handwriting may have lost its appeal for many people in the modern age, but writing and receiving hand written letters has hardly lost its romance over the years.
This is a powerful way to connect with your honey year-round, but particularly around Valentine's Day, this something you can do in order to make sure that you're connected to one another when you can't be together.
Love letters are a little bit different depending on whether or not you're writing them for men or for women. People of both genders should feel comfortable in writing a beautifully-crafted and hand-written letter to their lover regardless of distance or time since their last meeting. Please see some tips below for writing the best love letter you can by gender.
Letter-Writing Tips for Women
- Keep it simple.
- Tell him what you admire about him.
- Tell him what you appreciate about him.
- Affirm something he likes about himself.
Letter-Writing Tips for Men
- Tell her what you love about her.
- Tell what makes her beautiful to you.
- Tell her how much she means to you.
- Tell her what you appreciate about her.

Letter writing is not a lost art! Writing romantic love letters will add to your arsenal of loving gestures you can extend to your partner or spouse, particularly at Valentine's Day.
Are you separated from your valentine this year?
Send Your Honey Gifts and Cards Leading up to Valentine's Day
Don't stop sending your honey love letters in the weeks between New Year's and Valentine's Day, but this is also a great time to start sending your loved one some small presents as well. If you're planning on using the idea to watch the same movie at the same time on Valentine's Night, think about sending her the movie you'd like to watch (but make sure that it's something she'd enjoy!).
Small gifts that are inexpensive to ship make the ideal presents. Think of the types of gifts you might give to your Secret Santa at Christmastime.
Use cards to send short messages to the person you love. Tell him how much you miss him and wish that you could spend the winter months together instead of separated. Tell her that the bed feels empty without her. Keep the messages in your cards relatively short (no more than a paragraph or two) and keep the longer sentiments for your love letters.
In addition, send small gifts to your honey. Flowers make a great gift, as to chocolate covered strawberries or teddy bears. Little treats, particularly those that interrupt a work or school day, will often be appreciated. Just make sure that your partner isn't shy about these things or the gifts won't go over particularly well.
Watch the Same Movie at the Same Time on Valentine's Day
If you can't be together for Valentine's Day, the next best thing may be to do the same thing at the same time, as though the two of you are doing it together.
You can choose from any number of activities, such as eating the same meal at the same time (even choosing to create the same setting for your dinner table) or going outside to watch the stars "together" on February 14th. Choosing to watch the same movie at the same time is very much like sharing an experience, even when you can't be together.
While you can certainly do this by going to the movie theater (when two theaters are showing the same movie at the same time, which isn't impossible with chain theaters), this is a terrific activity to do in the comfort of your own home, and you can make the DVD version of the movie you've chosen one of the gifts that you send your valentine for a gift this year.
Make sure that the activity you choose is something that you both enjoy and something that you either have done together or that you'd like to do together in the future (if you've never spent time together face-to-face).
- Adorable Teddy Bears make Great Valentine's Gifts!
Teddy bears make great Valentine's Gifts for any one of your loved ones, from your wife to your daughter. Choose a Valentine's bear to make for a great gift this February 14th!
Send a Teddy Bear to Your Valentine
Teddy bears make a fantastic long-distance Valentine's Day gift for your partner because they will remind your partner of you every time she looks at the bear that you sent. If you choose a special, personalized teddy bear from the Vermont Teddy Bear Company (for example), you'll really capture her heart! These bears can be customized to represent the person you are in combination with bearing her name. Vermont Teddy Bear Company has a range of bears that reflect a number of personalities and personal interests.
Vermont Teddy Bears can also be sent directly to your honey at home, the office or at school. You can certainly make her friends jealous this way! This is honestly the best teddy bear company you'll find, and the bears are made by hand, not by machine. You can also make your own Teddy bear if you want a project and even more personalization: Just make sure that you have the skills first.
A Pajamagram for Valentine's Night is a Romantic Gift for Long Distance Loves
When you can't cozy up with your valentine this February 14th, why not send something she can cozy down in and think about you?
It's important, when you're separated from your valentine, that you do something that makes them think of you. Gifts like teddy bears and pajamas are enduring, and will continue to remind you honey of you and the time you gave them the gift for a long time into the future.
Keep yourself on your lover's mind with a teddy bear or a pajamagram, or both!
Make Sure to Call Your Valentine to Say "I Love You"
Even if it will be the first time that you've heard your valentine's voice, make sure that you end the holiday with a phone call to your loved one. Even if the call only lasts for a few minutes, this is a good time to make sure that your partner gets to hear you say "I love you."
The written messages are important, so don't overlook them by any means! But letting your honey hear you say it is also important, so make sure to set aside the time and let your valentine know that you're going to be calling.
